    Questions about parting a car

I'm picking up a parts car tomorrow and was just wondering what advice all of you had about parting them out. Since I don't know what 90% of the parts are called I'm concerned I'll frustrate potential buyers! Would I be better off taking what I want and just trying to sell whats left as a whole?

    Parts Car: 91 318i vert
    My Car: 87 325i vert
    I'll be taking:
Complete interior. It is 1000x better than mine lol
bumpers (mine are metal and donor are PLASTIC!!!)
    Fenders
Shocks/struts/springs - If they are in better shape than mine
Steering wheel (It is an airbag version but I'm not going to hook it up)
Various electrical bits that may be of use later.

Is there anything else that would be a good idea to salvage before I put it up for grabs?

    TIA!!

You make more money selling off parts. You can also sell the entire thing to a junker too. But if you go to real OEM or check out the Bentley theres diagrams with names and pictures of everything. Also check out the classifieds with other people who are parting their cars, there are parts that are always in demand.

I just got through replacing everything on the 325i! I wish I would have found this one before I started. I might keep it and build it back slowly over time. Then decide which I like better LOL!

Grab the diff. If I remember correctly they are a 4.27 to 1 ratio. If you don't want to use it, a lot of the 318is guys would pay decent coin for it.

If you are able to take lots of good pics that will also help to cut down on any confusion a potential buyer may have. That and p/n's are you friend.

Sell the cat, the window switches, interior door handles, cluster, and the set of door locks on ebay.

I got $225 for the cat, $100 for ALL of the switches, $40 for the door handles, $110 for the cluster (it had only 129,000 miles on it) and $90 for the door locks including the keys and ignition.

Nice! This is the kind of info I was looking for. I'm going to sell my old interior as well but it is pretty junky but could be recovered. What do you guys think a fair price would be for:

                  front/rear seats
                  Door cards front/back

Also the motor is blown but what would be worth picking off for egay/classifieds?

                  Thanks r3v!

Not that I care, of course.

Its not an auto so his is the 4.10. Also, the 4.27's aren't that popular w/ the 318is guys, since its still a small case which is weak.

UMmm......you're parting that gem out? That car is 100 times nicer than mine. Sad I wish I could have it :(

What is wrong with it? Blown headgasket?

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

Save your foglight delete panels, those are sought after also.
