    BMW 2002.. price?

Alright I have a neighbour that has a 2002 and is looking to sell it, its an automatic, looks to be in decent shape, I'm going to ask about the mileage later this evening. He knows nothing about the car(he's a redneck), I'm kind of interested in it, what would be a decent price to offer him?

year, condition, etc. more info please
btw, an automatic square tailight 02 is the lamest 02 you can get. unless it is a fucking steal ($500 or less), keep looking.

$700 to 1$,000. One and a quarter if its in real decent shape "to be fair" in my most humbled opinion.... You can probably haggle him down to anything, if he doesn't know much about it. Or just do the ol' "well that transmission feels like its going out. I mean I'll take it off your hands, but I'd have to give you a fair bit less than your asking price, due to the difficulty it takes to ascertain another decent transmission for this german auto." trick.

or unless the body is straight up solid.
the biggest deciding factor (for me) would be the condition of the body..
(inspect it's undercarriage, door jams, trunk, etc.)
if the body's cancerous, the 'project' of it would quickly lose appeal.
I'd much rather start with a straight, lame 02 than a swiss cheesed well-optioned one.

              Bingo.

I was poking around looking at rough roundies for 2 years, I impulse bought this no rust square taillight model this week.

Everyone goes for round taillights cars, but if you find a decent (read: non-rusty) square-light car, I'd go for it. I like roundies, but have never understood all of the square-light hatred.

I don't believe that there is a hatred of square light cars. The round light cars were just the original.

Keiths car(in the pic above) is a great example of a square light with "euro" bumpers(much cleaner than the big diving board NA spec cars had).

                  Here's mine.

Not really, it's the perfect candidate for a 5 speed swap as the transmission tunnel is wider from the factory to fit the auto box ( needed to put the 245 in from a 320i ). Also the late cars have a fuel return line built in making it easy to fit fuel injection.

For me I had 71 & 72s in my youth so that is my love, however later I had a right hand drive 75 with euro bumpers. My main problem with 74-6 is the atrocious bumpers. They make divingboards look petite.

Actually 2002 prices are all over the place. I've been on the hunt for a couple years and can say that I've seen prices from $1000 for rough rust buckets in running shape to $70k turbos. A decent shape one will be in the $5-10k's but expect it to be somewhat molested and no tii's. A picture will tell us the whole story.
