After doing a little research, I believe the formal name is the K40 Sonaradar SS1000.

Two of the other cars were totaled on the highway. The owner paid 30,000 in 1987. The car has performance cam done by BB. I just put a 4.10lsd from a 3.64 open. The car needed new manifold gaskets, brake fluid flush, transmission fluid flush, diff gear oil change. I hope to get it back today from the mechanic. This is my second e30 and I just stumbled on it on Recycler.com

Yes the mechanic is going to check the timing belt. What would happen to the engine if the timing belt broke? would that be it for the engine?
If your timing belt breaks the valves will get bent because of lack of clearance between the valves and pistons. I'm really not sure why bmw didn't use pistons with dips in the tops (cant remember what they're called.....) in order to prevent the damage. Cool car though man, have fun with it!

Just got back from the mechanic and he said the timing belt was never touched, and it had original disk brakes, when they took them off they fell apart, lol. This is a list of stuff done to the car so far.

timing belt changed, valve cover gasket, manifold gasket, replaced cylinder head bolts with star bolts. Had the brake fluid flushed, transmission fluids replaced, put in a 4.10lsd instead of the 3.64 open. New catalitic converter, plus muffler. Front tires wobble at 40 mph, now the tires are balanced, control arm bushing are perfect, could it be the wheel spacers?

That is awesome!!! The little ribbed vent/cover above your ashtray in the console looks like the little plate holders that Cocetto (sp?) edition M3s got.

Its some kind of vent. When I turn on the AC the vent sucks air in.

                  What is Cocetto edition?

Welcome to the board. The pictures do your car no justice. My dad was very impressed with the overal mechanical condition of the car. Your car is in very good hands. My dad used to be shop foreman at pacific BMW in the 80's and can fix e30's with his eyes closed.

I'm confused. How was your dad impressed with the mechanical condition if he has not seen the car?
