Mercedes 190e: seems like a good deal

Some sport package, but not the actual evo or anything. I love the seats. Check out the rears seats in it! Looks comfy. Click here

According to the ad, it has 2 cylinders too many and was made 5 years too late to be a 16v in the states.

I like it. 5 speeds are a bit rare in that body style, and it happens to be a sportline, which is another rarity in the states. It also looks like it is in very good shape; something that isn't seen too often in the older 190es. If I had the money, I would be quite interested. It would make a wonderful daily driver, in my opinion.

That's what I was thinking. I don't claim to know much about Mercedes, but I know this one is pretty nice and not the norm. I would like to see how it drives (never driven a manual Mercedes).

I drove a 190 for a few years. Was an ok car but the upgrades were $$$. If I was to ever get another it would have to be a 16v sportline with amg rims. Black on black with red accents. Just plan on about $600 right off the bat in parts/maintenance.

I wouldn't buy this car personally. If I was going to spend money I'd upgrade to a nicer E30.

190's are neat cars, and fairly solid from what I have heard. There is a 2.6 Sportsline in my town that looks pretty dope. But, being a Mercedes-Benz, it is full of costly vacuum-operated components.

Neat, but the 2.6's are very blah from what I have heard. 16V's are a bit more expensive/costly, but are well worth it.

The Fuel Distributor is a common part that fails and is over $2,000 new.
Rebuilts are about $400.00 and up.

These cars are very expensive when something breaks.

I was considering a 190e or a 300e but once I started researching what parts go bad and how often, along with their cost, I passed.

Seriously. I owned an '87 16V black on black, with the dogleg tranny, and even though it was fast and fun, it was still a POS. I spent hours upon hours of diagnosing electrical & vacuum operated bullshit, along with shitty idle and rich running. The fuel injection system sucks too. Interior build quality was crap too. You can pick your reasons why I sold the damn thing.

The only good thing about the car was the multi-link rear suspension design, cosworth motor, and the solid mercedes "tank-like" feeling you get when closing the door.
