    Race Suspension

I came across this on the tex, its not photoshopped. What are the benefits of being this dumped? Lower center of gravity I would guess but then why dont more race cars have a more modest drop? Some of you suspension-race gurus must have the answer to this, plus I thought it was a cool pic.

Air under the car creates lift.

      ???

the lower the vehicle, the faster air travels under it, therefore it would create downforce.

i assume the main reason for that vw being so low is get rid of as much body roll as possible, not so much for aerodynamics.

Race tracks have smooth surfaces and purpose built suspensions not factory units. So dumped on a multi link coil over system is not a bad idea.

I5 Tdi cool stomped many other factory racers.

Plus that car is gonna have moved suspension mounting points so that it can get away with running that low without all the negative affects lowering a normal street car would encounter like terrible bump steer and weird roll centers and stuff.

And fast moving air underneath a car doesn't produce downforce per se, it actually creates an area of intense low pressure underneath the car which quite literally "sucks" it to the pavement.

i meant theoretically. i dont know if that vw is actually creating downforce, but downforce is used to measure the downward force created by the low pressure region underneath the car. i'm not quite sure what you were getting at.

It's a FWD VWpig, it's probably got 6 degrees of negative camber up front & 1200 pound springs in the rear to make it turn. You want a FWD car like that to be darty, so there's obviously no body roll at all to it.

no one really... especially Turner Motorsport who is in 1st place in speedworld challenge with all 4-door cars

also teh car isnt really all that dumped... its almost picking up the front left wheel so weight is transfered to the rear right wheel and compressing the suspension a lot giving it the slammed look

They were specific built diesel for endurance events in EU and competed in some DTM events also. They were quite fast and had mega torque. Look at the front brakes they are huge. There is no factory stuff under that car.

I think I remember see that they won the class at 24hr Nurburgring race.

Most of the touring car's run super low... I love it. I can't exactly explain why they do though.
