I shipped a valance today and I wrapped it in bubble wrap and a layer of cardboard.
Then I wrapped the whole thing with 2 rolls of tape.
Went to Fed-ex and paid 27.00 to ship it from PA to FL.

Go to a bodyshop. I was a shop slave and most shops would be glad to give you empty boxes rather than breaking them down and filling the recycling dumpster. Go anytime really, there's always new boxes coming in and going out.

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

Wow, you guys are good. Shipping a valance for 27-55 bucks via UPS too... you don't think it will get all beat up with just bubble wrap over it and no box?

Bicycle stores often have large boxes you can cut to fit your exact needs.

Are you guys really discussing this?

              As said:
Take the valence. Wrap it with bubble wrap. Use small pieces of cardboard over sensitive edges like the sides. Tape it up good. Do more bubble wrap and then wrap it in cellophane. Tape it up real nice. Take it to a STAFFED FEDEX LOCATION. Not a Kinkos or any of that shit, but a STAFFED location. It will be half the price and quick and cheap.
I shipped those Recaro's that I advertised for sale in the for sale section for 51 dollars a piece to Austin, TX from Nashville, TN. They weighed 50 pounds a piece. I wrapped the shit out of them.
I've also shipped a full set of M parallels for under 100 dollars to Texas as well. Its all about that staffed location, since trucks roll through. You dont want to get any more surcharges than you have to.

one, that much packaging is gonna add too much weight to the bundle.

two, its about size when you get over 40 inches, not weight.

three, yo ushipped from one major FEDEX hub (airline) to another. thats why that was so cheap.

four, without going your way, and doing it mine, it was 55$. now imagine with all your packaging issues... damn.

five, the edges are not th sensitive parts, its the tabs that are, and a piece of ardboard wont help that.

six, car dealerships wont give out the box. what boxes they do have that are large enough, are still filled with the product... i tried.

seven, jst bubblewrap and tape = no claim. no claim wont help when i have put hours into the valence itself to smooth it out, prep and primer it. imho, it is one of the sexiest valences i have ever seen, even without paint. i need the insurance money if it gets damaged to pay back my customer, so saving "a few bucks" isnt worth that trouble.

eight, airline shipping is not a good idea. i worked for the airlines, and i can tell you, if you want ANYTHING to stay in one piece, that is not the route to go. a guy who shot the largest deer in the US had the antlers (sp?) wrapped and in the cargo area with his gear... they DID look good. insurance claim to get one of them shops that mount it on a damn board to make it look unbroken? $900 a piece! efff that.

nine, fighting over which company is cheaper to ship is retarded! it all depends on your location, where the nearest hub is, and other various obsticles. i live between a fedex hub, a UPS hub and a DHL hub. UPS has one of the best insurance and customer service departments in the business.

ten, you get what you pay for. $20 shipped valence wrapped in bubblewrap and two rolls of tape? are you fuckin kiddin me? if i was the customer, i would report you to paypal and get my money back. thats messed up dude... pay to have it shipped in quality

**ignore spelling. i am typin as fast as possible to gtfo of the house

Say what you want. I have been selling and shipping parts for about 5 years now.
I have shipped over 30 bumpers and I wrap them exactly the same every time.
3 rolls of bubble wrap. a layer of card board and 2 rolls of tape.
EVERY TIME. I have one bumper that actually broke or something got fucked up on it in the past 5 years.
                    So it must work.
And yes it was 27 to ship it. Most people dont know that you can open a fed-ex account for free and save 15% on each package and 20% if you print your own lables.
So before you come in here bitching about how I ship my items. You should search around for feed back and see who has actually bitched about anything that I sent them.
