    93 Octane

So, some of you may have heard there is a little gas crisis here in the southeast. I live downtown and 93 octane is nowhere to be found. My gas light is on and I really want to drive my e30 this weekend instead of my Jetta. Here's the question, I have a MarkD chip tuned for California (91 octane), can I get 87 octane and add "octane booster" to make it run? 87 octane is pretty much everywhere, but I don't want to tool around in the e30 with my gaslight on and not find 93....
    TIA.

Do you not have mid-grade? Like 90 or 91? Is it just 87 and 93?

Pour a gallon of tolulene in right before you pump the 87 in the tank.

        Where do I get that?
And no the only thing close is 89.
In ga we have 87,89, 93.
        Pretty stringent here.

FWIW, I drove my chipped eta through a whole tank of 87 without any apparent issues. It was cold, and I don't really get on it much, so that may have helped.

Hmmm, Don't wanna risk it though. Does octane booster actually work?

Never tried it, but Xylene is also pretty popular.

Paint store ( like Kelly Moore, if you have those there, Hardware store if not ), it's 112 octane IIRC, octane boost from a store bought can is mostly tolulene and doesn't do shit.

You could get by using crap gas and driving a bit milder while you burn off that tank.

Here's a link that explains some about it.

sheesh, it's not like you're gonna blow it up without 93

no. i run 87 (or something similar) chevron gas. runs like a charm. i never noticed a difference when i ran 92 chevron gas in it. i had to..just to try to lower emissions.
