    Idle Problem

Hey guys, I need some help. After replacing the alternator, the idle now surges between 800rpm and 1500rpm. Any suggestions on fixing problem? Thanks in advance.

Disconnect the alternator and see if the problem goes away for starters.

Also im guessing you disconnected the battery when installing the alternator and if so then your computer will take over 10min to relearn, so go drive it then see if it goes away.

I say drive it, and let it work itself out

Ya, if you disconnected the battery for an extended period of time then you will need to let the car run for a bit so the computer can re-learn itself.

Thanks for the quick replies. Yes, the battery was disconnected during the alternator installation. I've driven the car for a good 40 minutes, but the problem persists.

Kenika, if I disconnect the alternator and start the car, it would surely drain my battery fast, would it not? Is there a remote chance that the new alternator is causing this idling problem?

          Any other suggestions?

Lol no you will not drain the battery quickly it would take a good 20min with a full battery.

So give it a try, many new alternators will have problems so you may have got you hands on a bad one worth a try.

Also make sure you didnt cause a vacuumed leak some where when replacing the alternator.

Go over everything you took apart to double check.
