I need a project car, something old, simple, maybe English..

I'm at college and I am soo god damn bored. All the time. My classes are stupidly easy and I do nothing at all. There is no social life on this campus what so ever. Everyone goes home for the weekends and no one does anything. So I was thinking of getting a project car to tinker on while I have nothing to do. Searching around Craigslist I found a couple old MGs and Fiats for cheap. I have 500 to spend on the initial purchase and parts as they come along. I'm looking for something easy to work on, old, maybe a bit English and fun to drive. And MGs and Fiats seem to fit this bill relativly easy and I doubt parts are very expensive. Anyone have experience working on these cars?
    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Or maybe a project 2002 or E21.

This is a joke right? E30 perhaps?

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

No I don't really want fuel injection and E30s can't be had for sub 500$

2002's are awesome, but get expensive pretty quickly... But all projects are that way. I'd honestly go MG if you want something different and something fun. But an MG could get expensive quickly as well. I'd check for common parts and see if their cheap or if their expensive and go from there.

2002 is a great choice. Or triumph spitfire, just because they make me all gooey inside.

where are you going to work on the car and do you have the tools?

If you are bored, I would join good gym and start working on your own body, best project for under $500

Yeah, you'll spend far more than $500 on parts to get the thing into a semi-safe drivable condition. The initial cost of the car may be cheap but there's a reason for that.
