I searched for a redline dealer local with no luck. Everyone wanted to charge $10+/qt to ship it so I'm going with AMSOIL because their are 3 dealers in Austin and I am a preferred customer so I only pay $8.50/qt

I also couldn't find much info on AMSOIL for our e30s figured you all would like this.

I am replacing the automatic trany fluid in my 86 325es and will be using their universal synthetic atf.

I have also provided info for a 1991 318is and a 1991 325is.

1. After refill check oil level.
2. With engine automatic transmission operating temperature, shift through all
gears. Check fluid level in PARK and add fluid as needed.

Redline in a getrag 260 (manual) is the shit, i ran mobile synthetc, valvoline synthetic, and the bmw stuff. Nothing feels nearly as good as redline. That being said i will be putting amsoil into the autotragic in my e39

I cant imagine their being a difference in the feel if you compared equally worn ZF's or getrag260/240's One filled with expensive synthedic the other filled with standard oils

But i understand, most people love synthetic everywhere available.
and it costs more so it must be better...?
If its not getting hard abuse, i would just go ahead and run some quality standard oils. You usually change them around the same time regardless of them being synthetic or not anyways.
I do feel people who buy synthetic oils for their non abused/tracked daily or whatnot are more paying for the piece of mind of having a synthetic oil. For most cars it isn't really a benefit

I say bullshit. Conventional oil is fine if you change it on a regular basis. I still run regular crap dino oil in my e36 which has seen nothing but and is about to click over to 190k. I've also taken apart my share of engines that have run synthetic and conventional oil and ones that have run regular stuff. The magic of synthetic just isn't there from what I've seen.

As for putting Amsoil or any other stuff like that in the auto-tranny on a newer BMW like an E39 you're really rolling the dice. Those things are extremely sensitive to fluid and I've seen more than a few fail that had been filled with the wrong stuff.
