    The Carnage.

Well, finally after nearly 4 months of waiting, I finally removed my engine and took off the head. It revealed a lot as to what caused the catastrophic failure. It seems as though the cam (a 280/280 11mm lift from IE), caused the valves to physically contact the pistons a little, resulting in an intake valve failure on #5. Basically, I should have checked the clearance before driving the car, but was rushed, and thought the noise I heard (however slight it was), was normal for a medium duration higher lift cam. The valve broke, smashed the head, and what you see is what you get. On to an M50. Thanks Ted for the help, it's nice to have a second hand (he's the one in the pics).

For now I think I'll run the m50 non-turbo, and see what happens from there ;)

    See you guys around!

Matt's car goes from a rip-snorting, fire-breathing 2.8 liters of turbocharged 12V SOHC fury to an NA 24V.

The end of an era, without question.

same thing just happened last weekend during practice at the enduro, good thing it popped before the race so we could at least use a different car.

I don't think you will be terribly excited with the power difference you will see, but i can't imagine it would stay NA for too long

Probably not, but the cool thing about the 24V engines is that it's just a totally different form of power delivery.

I think it's certainly smoother and has a bigger area under the torque curve, sort of like the S54 vs the 3.2 Euro S50. Not knocking the M20 by any means, just saying that the M50 is a more evolved engine.

              Damn. It will be missed.

Now get that M50 in there, slap a big ass turbo on it and call it good!

Damn, that's too bad. Yours was the one I wanted mine to be like when I joined the forums back in the day.

A little? It hit a LITTEL?

BTW - stop running green coolant and run blue OEM blue collant.

One of the first highly modified e30s I ever saw. It is definitely the end of an era. I'm excited to see what you do with the m50.

Speaking of that. I drove a new Dinan tuned M3, and all I have to say is from 1500 to the 8k redline it's constant increasing power. I almost shit myself.

I heard the 24v is the same way, can't say i've driven one that isn't drastically modded.
