Why is there a need to have it concealed? It is legal in 48 states, so why is there a need to hide it? I have mine on the center of the windshield of the whole world to see and cops have looked at it and me and not said anything about it.
Also, is 200+ dollars required for a radar detector that works good? I currently use a Whistler 1760 myself and have had good results from it so far...afaik....

Yes.
IMHO, the V1 is the only one to get. Anything else is just giving you a false sense of security.'91 318is

I dont' want to change to a different detector because I KNOW this one. I automatically react to the sounds after 6 years of hearing them, I dont' even have to think about it. It has at least a mile range in open areas which is more than far enough to get me slowed down. It also has rear detection if a cop is behind me.
I'd like to have a V1 for some of the other features but this one is going to have to die or let me down before I'd spend that kind of money on one.

Heh, I love my V1, works very well, however with the ever improving laser technology I need something to jam that signal =)

Sounds like that K40 works with the V1 to jam some stuff. Haven't looked into myself, since most of the cops in CA aren't using LIDAR yet. Coronado PD (local small city cops) are the only ones in SoCal I know of that are using it.
V1 rocks. I've got mine mounted at or above the rear view mirror in whatever car I'm driving. I will eventually get around to hardwiring it, but the 318iS doesn't have AS much power options up there (no sunroof), and the M3 isn't running, so...
I've got it wired up well in the Jetta. That car has enough places to hide the wires without taking things apart too much that I have run the power cord all the way from the lighter to the top by the mirror without it being visible. Gotta love the cheaper German cars!
BTW, you want the detector as high mounted as possible. It can get signals from farther away do to less Line Of Sight obstructions. And Jim Powell also puts them in rear brake lights. The cool thing abou the e30 is that there were TWO types of thrid lights (three if you count cabrio's). You can get a high-mounted housing to hide the V1 in, with the lower 3rd light still working. I believe the 3rd light was only available in the M3, so dig up some part #'s from the ETK.SOMEBODY messed with my sig so now you get this one:

What good is a laser detector? It's my understanding that they only go off when your car has been targeted with the lidar so if that's the case then it's too late by then.
Also I've seen reviews on all kinds of jammers, licence plate covers, etc. and they said they are all a waste of money. Can anyone show me research that shows any of these things work consistantly?
