Your car doesn't have a timing belt, and I can't think of any car where you can adjust the valve angle. You should sell your car to your mother and buy a civic.
Why don't you just kill yourself. Judging by your attitude alot of the time, I'd say it'd be win-win. I know I don't like your opinion or attitude, and if thats your common pratice I'm sure alot of other people don't either. I don't really care if you are a modorator, that is sure as hell no excuse to just blatently bash people.

Kill, or self-fellate yourself. How about it.

The guy paid $1000 for the car (or, likely his mom) and she was about to spend $1300 on a brake job? LMAO

I agree with Matt. I is worth a shot. Even, get a girl/woman you know to call up and inquire about the car. That way, at least you know for sure, and if the car is available. Have your friend go pay for it cash. Don't show up there again as yourself. No sense in making a situation sticky. You got the car, what more else does there need to be.

Where is the sad part??? :?:  :?

You didn't leave the buyer any incentive to hold onto the car, and someone else had $4k on hand to buy it ($500 more than his asking price). If you were the seller, would you A) Sell the car for $4k to someone with cash in hand or B) Sell the car for $3.5k to a kid who isn't sure if he can buy it??

Sorry for being blunt, but that's the truth. Its an E30, there's plenty more out there. I could see if this was some cream puff going for a great price, but this sounded like a fairly average car, going at an average price.

If you *really* want a particular car, you have to be ready to buy when you go to see the car, especially if you are taking a road trip to do it. Why take 2 trips? If you don't want to carry that much cash, get a cashier's check for ~20% less than the asking price and take the remaining 20% in cash so you will have some room to negotiate.

Cash is king. Most sellers will sell to the first person who shows up with $ anywhere near the asking price. i.e. if someone else showed up with $3300 in hand, most sellers would close the deal instead of waiting for you to *maybe* come back with $3500 the next day. "Oh, you have another buyer interested in the car? How 'bout an extra $500 to forget about him?" $100 maybe. $500 is just silly. That might happen in the current real estate market, but it seems a little odd for a 15-year-old car. Maybe he just told you "$4,000" so he wouldn't seem like a dick.

Oh shit, that reminds me of what really isn't cool. In one transaction my dad was trying to make, the sellers were supposed to sign a counter-offer, but another buyer came to the seller's front door and offered more money.

It was gay, and my dad lost commission on a half million dollar house. Shenanigans!

p.s. commission is 3.5%, so depending on the split.....well.....that's a shitload to be taken out from under you.

Sorry to hear about that. I too was a WA E30 buyer and had situations like that happen to me a few times. You'll get used to it. I ended up paying $4300 for my 89 325is. Most people will say I overpaid, but I've had mine for over a month now and can say I don't think I've made a better purchase in my life. Keep looking. There is one out there for you. It took me 3+ months, but I found it.

Good Luck. I'll let you know if I see something down here in the Vancouver/Portland area.
