I used to say that kind of crap too, until I saw a group of MkI VW's at a few autocrosses that absolutely destroyed everything on the course, regardless of drivetrain.

buddy of mine used to wreck shop with his beat ass rabbit in autoX out in Long Island. Especially when porker clubs would have their events at tobay or someplace similar. Nothing like handing some dude in a shiny 996 his ass by a few seconds with your rattly lifter mk1.
