mike - yeah i wasn't sure what you meant at first, but yeah i like that. I actually had another bug with type of paint scheme.

and really - what isn't played out with vw's. one person has a good idea and then everybody has it. Takes a good 6 years to break a cycle it seems. That's why i left vw's for a long time, and when i came back i was happy to see some new ideas. maybe i should go away again :)

GOOBER - nice build. i'll check out your link in a sec.

funny thing is my car is a high school build too (first time around), expect high school for me was 1995 :p

i'm super happy that the paint and everything has held up over the years (sprayed it myself). I'm just not happy with all the mechanical shortcuts i took as a 16 year old :(

thanks! they are stockers in the front, running 165/45/15s lol

check out the difference in ground clearance, and wheel height from my old to new setup

rears are stock wheels that have been widened 2 inches

Ah I know that well. The only awesome upgrade that really only my dad convinced me to do was disc brakes up front. Makes a BIG difference and because it's so light it really stops.

Unfortunately I bought a crate motor because I was too much of a wimp to build my own (even though there's not too much to a bug motor) and was too cheap to shell out the extra 300 bucks to buy a 1776, so it's just a 1600 dual port with dual carbs

Bender just fyi, because you're so low you're gonna have some rubbing issues on the headlight housing if you're using stock size tires in the front, ask me how I know

            You should look into 145/R15s

I'm new here and just picked up my E30 earlier this week but I'd thought I would post up a one of the BMW's stablemates.

I had 135's on the car previous to this. They are soooo tall compared to what i have now.

I haven't checked yet, but i don't think there will be any clearance issues. they are stock wheels, but not stock tires

car is bagged, so that helps :)

from its previous incarnation, circa 1996

Yeah even with my 145 contis they still rub a little.

wow very nice. I think hot VWs has gone pretty down hill in the last decade, but my buddy told me that if I straighted up the engine bay (because it isn't up to his nazi standards ) he'll call up his contact at ultra VW and get him to feature my car. :)

yeah my new federal tires are a good 3" smaller in diameter than my previous 135/70's. So that along lowers the car 1.5" from where it was before

front beam is also narrowed (not that that helps bucket clearance)

i really hate the old style 135 / 145's.. super small contact patch. They get squirrely on wet roads and corners

yeah i have a 2" narrowed CB beam + the 145s so I know all about a squirrely ride plus I only have just an adjustable beam and no drop spindles, another youthful mistake

3dr GTis are INCREDIBLY rare in Australia. Only 10-15 of them out here.

This one lives around the corner from me and is currently for sale for $AUD10k - Do. Want.

haha thats funny. theyre incredibly common here. i had a 16v mk2 (1000 dollars) and a few of my friends have or have had mk2 gtis, and with 1.8 turbo motor swaps.

IIRC the US market never got 4 door GTI's, just the 2 doors
