    Random beep noise?

Hey guys so last night i was on the freeway going about 80mph(if that makes a difference) and out of nowhere i heard a random beep similar to a elevator beep tone. its not the first time ive heard this but i want to know what it means? no lights came on all my doors were closed nothing out of the ordinary. i might just be dumb but someone tell me what it is if you know? thanks.

There is a way to set the OBC to beep when a certain speed is reached.

If you have a full OBC, it was probably beeping because the temp hit 37 degrees or below, which is when "Black Ice" can form in shaded areas, such as freeway underpasses.

Your OBC will beep to warn you of potential black ice conditions.

It's been cold here in the SF Area at night and in the AM, so that's probably what you heard.

Check your OBC next time you hear it.

Speed gong? The 13 button OBC has a feature that you can program a certain speed, and when you hit that speed it gongs and I'm pretty sure the button lights up.
It would be the top right button.

              Is the memo activated?

It'll beep every hour if it is...

              Weird... I know.

+1 I had my memo on for a while. I think i just pressed "memo" and it went off. Then i pulled the speaker out of there cause god it is loud.

Oh yeah, and for weight reduction.... ?

I still wonder what the hell that memo beep is for anyway.

People would schedule appointments at the shop all the time because of it.

the temperature thing makes sense i think thats it because it is freezing the in bay at night lately. i do have a full obc but the blub is burnt out? so it doesnt light up and it is a bitch to take out any suggestions on replacing it? i have another one with a good bulb.
i dont think its the speed because i go faster than 80 and it never beeps.

I'm not sure, but I think when the OBC beeps to warn you of black ice conditions, it will change to "Temperature" display mode and flash the current outside Temp.

Either way, I'm pretty sure that is what is beeping.

Speed warning, memo, and your stock tape deck requiring cleaning are also other things that would beep while driving.

I've also heard that the rear defroster will automatically engage when reaching 37 degrees or lower outside, but that may only apply to later model BMW's.
