    Banner sponsorship for this site.

Everyone here is welcome to voice their opinion on the matter, but I have to ask you do not crap on this thread like the last one.

Alot of you have no doubt noticed the banner ad at the top of each forum page. Its dimentions are 468x60. I will be seeking 3-5 sponsors to fill that space with their ad for a monthly rate.

Right now I am talking with BMA Parts to bring them on board.

I want you guys to know that above all else, it is VERY important that I only bring onboard sponsors that the members will be interested in, and bring them business. It doesnt help you, or the sponsor, if they are offering services none of us want.

There will never be popups on this website (aside from your PM notification) and the only banner ad will be at the top of the forum where the forum logo surrounded by white is. This is a promise from me to all members.

A side perk of the banner mod I've installed in the forum, is the cool little icon banners in each of the tech section forums. I think they lend a nice touch to the forum, something I haven't seen elsewhere.

If anyone has any solid ideas on other companies that may have interest in sponsoring/advertising here by all means share.

I dunno.....I buy a lot of used shit, but have looked on those sites a lot for parts, etc.

btw, I like the little banner 3D graphics.

              Good question.

The donations made in Feb 04 were to pay for hosting till Feb 05.

The contract was for 40GB/month bandwidth. The forum grew and quickly surpassed that limit. We realisticly see 60GB/month of PHP traffic alone (just text). I've implemented gZip compression, and it scales that usage back to about 26GB/month of just PHP traffic. I would very much like to start hosting loads of cool videos, sound clips for the exhuast section, and other such large media.. however I would quickly exceed my alotted bandwidth.

As it stands now i can see from statistics we will easily grow enough by the end of this year to surpass the bandwidth limit in PHP traffic alone, so I am preparing for it now.

Because someone is bound to bring it up, I will just address it now. I spend 25-30 hours a week on this forum. Be it moderating threads, maintaining the database, or making updates. I would very much like to get something back from my invested time aside from the warm fuzzy feeling of creating a community.

Hey, can we limit the negative comments or anger from the mods?

And maybe create a n00b starting page or section.....or have a FAQ handy for them to see.

Please, maybe when they register, make them read stuff like this and tell them some rules. Then they are elligible to post or something. I like this idea. Nice one.

                      Whats the monthly rate?

Does this mean people who aren't banner (or pay for rate) aren't allowed to post their business?

Hope it pays dividends. As for the videos and such, forum comes first.

Jordan a startup page might no be a bad idea. Like for the first day the only forum they can access is FAQs or something.

I hope I am not making negative comments, I try to be honest but fair. Also Jordan, is there a way to spread the workload across the mods better?
                        Im now E30less.

Have them go to a FAQ/start page where they can scroll to the bottom, click yes, and ask the same question that they just scrolled over?
You can't get rid of n00bs who don't listen, at least it fun to flame them :P

This is something that I understand how it works, but it just sucks that it has to be like that. You lose out on alot of good products, simply becuase nobody wants to pay someone just to tell potential customers about their stuff.

I've seen alot of interesting things that have to immediately be shut down because they're not a paying advertiser on many forums.
