      Good question.

The donations made in Feb 04 were to pay for hosting till Feb 05.

The contract was for 40GB/month bandwidth. The forum grew and quickly surpassed that limit. We realisticly see 60GB/month of PHP traffic alone (just text). I've implemented gZip compression, and it scales that usage back to about 26GB/month of just PHP traffic. I would very much like to start hosting loads of cool videos, sound clips for the exhuast section, and other such large media.. however I would quickly exceed my alotted bandwidth.

As it stands now i can see from statistics we will easily grow enough by the end of this year to surpass the bandwidth limit in PHP traffic alone, so I am preparing for it now.

Because someone is bound to bring it up, I will just address it now. I spend 25-30 hours a week on this forum. Be it moderating threads, maintaining the database, or making updates. I would very much like to get something back from my invested time aside from the warm fuzzy feeling of creating a community.
I know exactly what you mean, and I support this decision.

Tire Rack has a good affiliate program, bmwe30.net uses it.

So what about an annual membership fee? Call it a subscription if you must, but like $25/yr to cover costs...non refundable if you are an ass!

The only change I would like to see is a spell checker.

As for the banner thing, I am all for it. How do you get recognition for their banner working? It is not like I am gonna buy parts from anyone online, but if you get props for people visiting their site, I can click and go look pretty easy.

Yanno, I spoke with that lowen guy...seems really nice, very professional. Most con artists do. What a shame!

Oh Hell no. Its great in theory luke, but horrible in reality. Look what it did to DTMpower.net, and those guys are per capita more willing to spend money....

fees would ruin this board. IMHO

I could never push member fees here, and wouldn't even try.

Ireland Engineering and BMW Bushings have been emailed. Waiting on replies.

Anyone know of a good place to get ATE powerdiscs, street pads, SS lines......cuz I will need those eventually. And hopefully we'd get discounts at that place by the time rolls around. 8)

I clicked the link for cookie traffic. I don't think I will buy from them as I can buy from numerous other world pac corp local sites and a few smaller guys that I like that are local to me.

I think the banner adds are a great idea. The sight needs to support itself at the very least. Calling on members to make donations was and IS a good idea and the fact that there are members here that donate indicates that there is a very loyal following.

Growth requires growth. The Forum is getting bigger, so the monetary tug will be a lot stronger. Sponsors are a smart move and you are going about it in a way that shows you respect your members. Their interests, their intelligence and their sanity. (I hate pop ups) Additionally, the acquiring of sponsors, shows the community that you intend to stick around for a long time.

                      Good move Jordan

I'm not familair with Bimmerworld firsthand, so I hesitate on that one...
