    Catylitic Converter

Hey guys, The catylitic converter in my car is broken up inside. I was thinking about replacing it with a highflow aftermarket cat. A friend of mine just told me to run a straight pipe. My car already has a Scorpion exhaust. Should i get a OEM cat. What do you guys think?

FYI last time I checked, a new OEM cat from BMW is well over $1000. I'd be looking at aftermarket or a resonator. a straight pipe is going to make it much louder.

i just put a magnaflow 2 1/4" dual in and dual out on my car last month to replace the rattling aftermarket cat. it sounds NICE!!!!!

are you still running duals or did you go to a single.

i always though that regular aftermarket cats were junk flow wise and when i switched the muffler out, it was confirmed!

i had to totally re tune the car after. the sound is still pretty quiet too. you can find the mufflers for around $100 and they DO FIT in the space where the cat section was.

you can also do it cheaper with a pair of glass packs too. it is a little buzzy though.

i have the old section with a pair of 2 1/4 " glass packs that i would let go cheap. the only problem is the muffler shop hacks that put on the cat cut off my stock flanges. mad hatter mufflers sucks!

i got better MPG, better acceleration, and a nice tone with out the rattle when i was done

doesnt NY have state inspections? you won't be able to have a car without a cat there if they do. just get a high flow aftermarket cat.

            duh....flanges my BROTHA!
bolt in the cat for inspection, swap out the muffler the reat of the time.

your cat will never wear out, and you can run a flow clogging aftermarket for the short time you need to.

Am not too concern about state inspections. There are ways around that, Am more concern about the car running the way it should, and i dont want the car running any louder. I like the sound of it. Do you guys think that an aftermarket cat would do the same job as the original.

no. if you are dead set on the cat get a high flow aftermarket one.
the reason i did the muffler instead of straight pipes is i actually liked the way it sounded with the cat, but with a 292 deg cam, it eats up the aftermarket cat and it starts to rattle in 4-6 months.

trust me, you will like the sound with the magnaflow muffler!

                    part number 11378. magnaflow MUFFLER!!!

here is a link so you can see the dimensions

MagnaFlow manufactures the best exhaust systems, mufflers, pipes and catalytic converters; now being sold directly from our website! We proudly manufacture products in the USA using premium components and the latest technology. Voted 2017 SEMA Manufacturer of the Year!

an aftermarket cat SHOULD clean up the exhaust gases as well as a stock one. it will not flow like one. the aftermarket cat will not stay good as long either because it has less honeycomb and platinum in it

you can just delete the code like on GM's right?

it sounds really good with the mufflers in place of the cat/cats

if you have a connections for a die grinder and welder, cut the fucker open (from the top side) break all of the shit out of it, weld it back together.

It will now just act as a resignater.

                              Plus Side:
high-flow, no rattling, appearance of a cat, free.

                              Down Side:
a touch louder, illegal (but you can just say that is how it was when you bought it and you didn't know about it.)
