so jean are you gonna do this? what are the ways i can get around all the rules without getting arrested, using my car as a DD, and registering it as a classic? Im basically trying to get a cool license plate, and lower my insurance rates. what would I persoanlly have to do in my situation.

Maybe DMV has a list of vehicles of historic interest.... "is at least 25 years old, and is of historic interest. "

We really should find out how they figure it...

I've always kind of assumed it was how the DMV clerk was feeling that day because it's so arbitrary.

I have this '58 Isetta that was a Hollywood prop and hasn't been registered since like 1965...

never.. ive been stopped 4 times this summer for various things. once was open header, no plates ripping down wayzata blvd past the golf course. the cop was very nice and just told me to take it home and make it legal. one other time the cop told me no plate was needed on the front because of its age. knock on wood ive never had a ticket in the car yet

The Germans changes the law from 20 y.o. as classic to 30y.o. right when my m3 was being painted and in 100000000000000000pieces-- for classic status, it needs to go to the reg. place and be seen/inspected if it is worthy of the plates.

Germany is so fucking cool, you have to be judged worthy of Classic plates.

And yes I definitely see an upsurge of tourings in the US in the coming years along with M3's and other delicious E30's from overseas. I know I want a euro early diamantschwarz 2 door...:!:

25 years is here. e30s started in 1982-- not like you will find any 82s-- but 83 is possible-- gonna have to settle for a 323i or a 320i---- can even send over some of them M10 carbed 316s!!!!!

afaik in NC it has to be 35+ years old (i was wrong its only 35)
and you still pay for registrartion
and you can put either a regular liscence plate on it or a plate from the year it was made

cars made before 95 do not have emmisions inspections any more, we dont have front plates, and theyre doing away with the inspection stickers and making them part of the registration ordeal

In nc a car is considered an Antique and gets antique plates when it is 35 years old

just picked this bit up off the dmv website (which is useless btw) there are 100 counties in NC, 48 of which require safety and OBD inspections

here in germany a classic can be modified-- ( i am presently going through the whole thing with my 55)-- but the modified parts have to be period/time correct.

In Texas for "Classic" (not Antique) plates your car has to be 25yr+ and fully registered but you can use it as your DD, no emissions testing and no front plate!!! granted it does cost $15 a year but hell, no worries with it as a DD!

Essentially the same here in Minnesota except no yearly registration fee and you cant put more than 3000 miles on the car.

No rules about modifications.
