    84 318i: Part? Fix? Toss?

Me and my dad are getting an 84 318i. Needs some headwork (not exactly sure, but it runs), a radiator, and a driveshaft. Other than that it is legal, rust-free, runs, and will drive with the mentioned items.

My question is: How much do you think I could make off of parting this out?

Would it be more worth it to fix the stuff (maybe even motor swap it to a 325e or i) and sell it? I think it would be cheaper and smarter to buy a running m20 and swap this in, rather than waste a bunch of money on rebuilding an m10 :P I think this would be a good option, and we could probably end up with a decent car to sell to someone.

My last option is to strip parts that me and my dad need, push it to the back of my house and have a race car. I've wanted to do this, and now seems like a good time. I will have a legal e30 shell, and all the time in the world.
This is most likely what we will do, unless the money will be good enough for me to give up my race car :P

What would you do? It's only costing us $200, which seems pretty good to me.

its hard to get any money out of rebuilding an old car, bmw or not. If its simple to fix, why not drive it into the ground? Or if you want to learn how to rebuild a motor, the M10 is the best way to go... very very very simple and not so bad on prices. I rebuilt one a while back for under 600; new gaskets top to bottom, seals, pistons rings, bearings, ect. Didnt replace anything major, but it was a fun experence.

Part out everything but what is needed for a track car.

      Then track the M10.

Don't you always bitch about never having a place to race a car? What would be the point of having one?

Swapping in an eta engine is dumb. They're pointless.

I don't think there is a track in all of Hawaii except for a small circle or dirt track. It's a waste of space on an Island.

I say just fix it up and drive it with the M10. Just dump a couple hundred into it and then enjoy the 28/35mpg.

How? What are the factory EPA numbers? My engine has 60k on a 'new' factory rebuild and 37 was the highest I ever averaged over a tank.

50mpg! It's slow in the first place, who cares.

What is this 'vacuum advance'?... sorry for being a noob.
