    Best Buy?

Well I applied for Best Buy. My town is finally getting one.

I submitted the application Sunday and went in to the Best Buy office to see why they hadn't contacted me yet, because I have EXTENSIVE technology (computer) experience. I've worked with them all my life. Anyways, I went in today and the lady couldn't find me on the application computer. I told her my social security number and she said I had failed the customer relations part of the application. She then proceeded to tell me that I should look at each question (about 50 total) and answer them as good as I could.

When I originally took the application online, it said that I should go through the answers as quickly as possible. The lady kind of contradicted that. So I left in total anger. So now I must resubmit my application and hope they call me, I guess.

The fact that I applied for service rep kind of makes me think. I mean, I don't think a person who works behind a desk fixing peecees has to have any substantial sales/customer relations.

Sorry if this is all a vent, but I really don't understand the point of an application. Sure it tells where you've worked before, but it doesn't exactly tell about YOU. That customer relations part of the deal was a load of crap, which I guess I can't answer honestly because they don't like people that are honest. So this go-around, I'll lie and put all the "nice" things.

Dude. You do NOT want to work at Best Buy. They treat their employes like shit. I've had lots of friends that have worked at various Best Buy's. None of them liked their job.

Dude, if you have strong technical skills, go contact an IT staffing firm and try and get some contract jobs through them. Even for dum-dum entry level stuff, you can usually make 12-14/hr.

Having done the retail thing for a number of years, you don't want to go the salesdroid route, it sucks ass to the nth degree.

Still in High School. Would have to be part-time. Where, typically, are IT firms at? I mean, are they within large businesses?

I had an offer for a job at a big hospital in town, but couldn't work there because it was full time. Had good pay too. :(

So true. Retail sales blow. I worked at Circuit City for a year and couldn't stand it (the pressure to sell, dickhead managers, etc...)

My friend quit working at Best Buy after like 3 months. Reasons:

If you're walking through any department, esp appliances, you're going to get millions of questions.

You get bonuses to treat the customers like shit.

You have to promo those shitty extended warrenties.

Christmas and Thanksgiving are never fun.

But hey, It's a job, so don't knock it. I don't exactly love my job, but it's good for high school/college.

So how many years did your "friend" get for that?

I think Charlie was wondering how long his prison sentence was.

I work in the Computer Dept at the Best Buy here in town...
I HATE it. I am the suckiest sales person I know, and management is starting to notice. The discount totally ROCKS. Everything else about the job is horrible. You'd think.. with being non-commissioned sales, you wouldn't have any pressure. NOT TRUE. Management is constantly nagging about selling a certain amount of service plans etc.

Even the service reps have to do a fair amount of pushy sales stuff, atleast at the store here. I'd be absolutely certain you could enjoy doing that before you take the job. Just my .02
