i want a disposable, chinese quality t-shirt that will only handle a half dozen washes before it falls apart with a hugh "Buy-N-Large" logo on it.
please, keep buying into the doom and gloom, it makes investments cheaper for me.

It's so funny because none of you (well anyone younger than 25 or so) have ever been through any serious downturns like what we had in the 70's and 80's. No we have one and everyone is running around like chicken little saying the sky is falling.

My grandfather lived through the great depression. He lived for 60 years after that. Even if it did happen, do you think you're going to die or something?

Nando great point. Its the unbelievable power of the tv networks and newspapers that get everyone believing that as posted "the sky is falling."

Whats funny is that back when they broke up the Bell phone company monopoly because it was too powerful (among others) they decided they weren't going to let that happen again.

Well look at what we have now. One monopoly being bought out by another ect. AIG with insurance. Fannie and Freddi owning what, like 70% of the mortgages. Its damn ridiculous. If thats not a monopoly I don't know what is. And look when they fall...tada depression or damn near. Either way economic conditions suck unless you are in a position to pump money into the stock market. When it goes back up some people most likely young ones are going to be sitting nice. I know plenty of people who have lots hundreds of thousands, but thats the risk you take.

what makes you say this country is a joke? most of the world uses the dollar standard. we have one of the largest economies, our national debt is nothing compared to many other countries like japan, we have a very high standard of living... i mean the list goes on. the dollar is gaining strength again. we have one little dip in the road and everyone goes nuts. i mean, honestly, this recession really hasnt affected us that much. you may feel it a little in the wallet, but overall, our standard of living is pretty much the same. we will be out of this fairly soon, especially with Mr. Obama's new spending plan

I say its a joke because everything is negotiable. So many people act like this country is the beacon of freedom and the example for the world to follow, and shit like this happens. It wouldnt b so bad if people wouldnt sell this country as the example for the world to follow. Or pretending that were just so much better than the rest. The hypocrisy is just too flagrant. People who are usually pro-capitalism and ultra pro-business until its inconvenient for them. I think its an insult to the working man to bail out these industries. Im not denying that everything that you said is true, but sometimes the shit that passes in this country is shocking to me. That financial bailout was the biggest farce I have ever seen, and no one even bats and eye. Its allowed to happen. I have been saying this for a long long time, its not recently and Im not "going nuts" because theres a bump in the road. I just can stand the bravado about capitalism and free-market economy and then completely going against that in a very severe way. And supposedly people hate socialism. It would be a lot more tolerable if people werent saying all those things. You think these industries would do the same for us?? How is it that we have to foot the bill for businesses that had their fair chance? I am not complaining about the economy, just the shameful practices of many of the people begging our government to save their ass. That wall street bailout was absolutely disgusting. No one has to answer for anything, they came up with the number in a rediculous fashion, there is no study or indication that that will work in the least, and it passed! Im used to this shit in countries in South America, but not here in the U.S. with all their high-and-mighty talk. Thats all. It sucks to see this kind of shit happen here. One would expect a higher standard.

And just because my opinion differs from yours, I have to not share it?? Thats real enlightened.

the dollar's recent strength has very little to do with any "good" in the economy and more due to macroeconomic factors as people run away from risk and into the safety of uncle sam.. same reason the Yen has become a safe haven. You could have literally bought treasuries with a negative interest rate - people were willing to take less than nothing from the government in return for not losing everything in the crash.

As soon as we hit a recovery expect it to continue it's descent, and it may not neccesarily be a bad thing for all the people who want to make more stuff here and buy less abroad.

agreed fully mariano its crap but one day when all settles out those of us with level heads will be able to benefit greatly with the way its going. as long as we buy at the right time things will rise back up and we will have plenty of money. my boss did the same thing. when he bought hits house it was somewhere around $100k but now its near $350k it may be fluctuating but its rising in the long run. people these days cant see past their noses when it comes to things liek that. we have been raised here and now for too long. we dont see into the future. im nto saying im perfect and have it all figured out but ive had the decency to stand back for a second and look at the braod spectrum. im no politic junkie but i have my views. honestly this whole problem is our fault and giving large companies the money isnt going to fix it. how many people decide to buy brand new cars even though they know they cant afford them. only to have them repoed and resold. and how much money do you think that costs the automakers etc to do that. as soon as the car rolls off the lot the price drops. its things like that that kill me. same thing with credit cards and loans. if you dont have the money dont spend it. but thats just the opinions of a 20 year old thats been trying to survive the last 3 years on my own. and was doing well until i lost my job. honestly i dotn know exactly what would fix our economy but i know that fixing our loan situation would help it. not lending people money to blow on stupid stuff that at the end of the day doesnt show for much. this just comes from me making almost 30k a year for a while to being unemployed for a while. and now ive had to sell my car and practically start over. nice where debt gets you if you dotn plan things out.
flame me if you want but remember that these are my opinions. if you agree good for you. if you dont good for you. i can have mine and you can have yours. just find a way to fix the economy and put it into action. its not gonna be fixed by giving the money to a few companies. its gonna take people in general working together to fix it. we are aerican citizens for a reason. we didnt make this country by each working for themselves. we worked together. many many disagreements but we are still here. because we need to work together. every person makes a difference. if you wanna see a better economy do something instead of bitching and moaning online.

sorry if i went a little overboard. i kinda have some extreme views lol and i barely pay attention to politics because most of it is useless jab like the anti-smog systems on cars. totally unnecessary.

We should for sure let GM go under, along with the UAW. So when we do recover Toyota can just pick up their market share, and pay all our domestic manufacturing employees $12 an hour. That way Toyota motor corp. can then buy more US treasury notes, to fund another oil war (Israel anyone?). That way we never have to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

The only conceivable problem with that, is that Caddilac won't be around to see 'sclades any more. Oh well, I'll buy me a used excursion or something.

Agreed, but maybe on different terms since I don't know which way you are thinking, but nontheless I agree.

I just wish the F'ing Federal government would pay their F'ing bills on time (I mean hell I have to still do the same with my bills). I'm not going to go into the long story it is. But since my business revolves around clients who do work for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae (just to name a few), and my clients aren't getting paid for their services in a timely manner. That it has trickled the F down to me and frankly I'm sick of it of floating the federal government and my clients as much as 190 days on outstanding invoices.

Maybe I can ask for bailout money too???

this country is an example for the world to follow. no other country gives its citizens the amount of freedom we have here, sure other countries may have better economies but they also have things like 50%+ income tax, or very few personal rights. i do agree however that the bailout is somewhat sketchy... but the big three are a large part of the backbone of our economy, and i feel like it would cause more damage if they went under

let GM go under? not only are they an American icon, but the loss of jobs would crush whats left of the economy...

oh, and the price of oil has gone where since the war started? oh yeah, up.
