    lower radiator hose

I was out in the ETA today. Missed a turn so i went to flip a U turn. It was semi wet pavement so i gave it a little stink and whipped it around into a light power slide. I peer out the sideview and i see what i thought was smoke....it wasnt. It seems that during my little higher rev maneuver i sliced the lower radiator hose with the alternator pulley. pulled over in a parking lot, made a call and got a new hose and its fixed and ziptied. but i want to put a higher quality tie on it.

i remember back in the day in my first ETA i went through 3 hoses that suffered the same fate. then i figured out that i needed to ziptie the POS out of the way. i thought i had beat that curse as its never happened in this car, and weve had it for almost 3 years now.

anyone else ever had this issue?

yeah man, your motor mounts are shot and the engine has far to much play in the engine bay under acceleration. Replace your mounts and all will be well.

Edit: Oh yeah, you're going to be in shock at how far away the pulley will sit when you are done with the mounts. lol

also its the power steering pump pulley that sliced through. Late model designs fixed the problem by moving the lower hose to the opposite side.

Never had the issue but I can see where you would want it a little bit further away from the pulley and whatever else. Glad it didn't cause major problems.

motor mounts are less than a year old (actually in march they will be a year old. and judging from where the cut was it was up around the alternator.

edit: the goodyear hose i got from the local auto store was better quality and shaped better than the factory piece i got now that i think about it, still want to tie it up so i dont have to hear about it from the wife or have it happen to me again.

The bad tranny mounts and near death CSB on the car could give it enough play under load to contact the hose.

do RWD E30s have the bump stops on the oil pan that keep the engine from shifting forwards? they go between the oil pan and the subframe on my car. I wonder how many people are missing those..

                        How secure is your radiator?

/\ very. its a brand new Behr so it attaches well on factory locations. ill look into the trans mounts but im pretty sure this was a fluke ocurrance (sp?). i was just curious if i was the only one thats had this issue before. im not replacing the motor mounts again unless one has actually failed. i dont believe a block of rubber can go bad in less than a year, not when the factory ones we pulled out with 240k were just fine.

Did you replace your old ones with new factory ones? I think not.

well i went to this car parts store. it was inside this place that sold these new cars, i think they were called bmws. anyways. i gave the guy behind the counter some money (alot of it actually) and he handed me these blocks of rubber with a stud sticking out of each side. then he put them in a nice thick plastic bag that had a picture of a motor that said "bmw" on it and i left. i THINK they came from a factory somewhere, i dont think they were from anywhere else...... i dunno.
