How long should an aftermarket finish last?

Well I have a set of BavAuto Cabrio specific springs, they were new on 4/2/07

and the red finish (paint or epoxy) has flaked off all over the springs. I got these knowing that it was an issue but figured a BavAuto would help me out getting them exchanged.

The paint isnt flaking due to being rubbed or dropped , its splitting where the coil is stretching the most.

Ive had plenty of sets of springs, for lifting trucks, for motorcycle suspention, the works

Ive never seen a set's finish detioriate so quickly.

none the less when i asked BavAuto about this they were pretty cool up unitl i asked for a replacement set (ive got a recipt) they said that they are not warranted for finsih and to hit them with a steel brush and paint. I pused saying that this kind of poor finish would be expected in maybe say a 10 year old spring not somthing 2 years old. THey shot me down again and offered a discount on a new set ( that will do the same thing)

    I declined.

I'm in the business of VOC (voice of customer) for a major electronics manufacturer, if we see somthign like this we take care of the customer.

What are your guys thoughts? am i a crazy asshole customer or should they replace them and take it up with thier supplier?

bavauto springs aren't known for being the best. I think you'd be better off going with something else than trying to squeaze blood from a stone..

Does their service suck? Would seem so.

But you bought a product with an issue you knew of beforehand, I don't really have any sympathy for that.

            2 things I would do:
            1. Ask for a supervisor (as I am sure you did) and calmly explain the situation (as I am sure you did, too) adn if they are unwilling to work with you...
            2. never ever give them another dime of your hard earned money and...
            3. Tell everyone you can about the shoddiness of it all (as you have).

            Good luck!

thats the key here, im not looking for sympathy

I knew this would have been a gamble, but it would have been nice if it turned out postivly

Like my recent interaction with BOSCH warranty, they replaced my wipers, told me to keep the old ones and thanked me for using the product.

Sympathy was a poor word choice, I'm just confused as to why you would buy a product you knew was shoddy.

I see where your coming from, but to be honest i dont think they are a shoddy product, they seem to do what they were designed to well

but, the finish could be better

I'm not really angryy, its just a bummer that they would offer to seell me another set that will have the same issue down the road and have no intention of fixing the issue

yeah i feel ya, but honestly you can't expect them to replace em

think if you were in their shoes, a small(?) online retailer tryina provide parts and someone wants their springs replaced just cuz of aesthetic blemishes...
they didn't send you a shit set that broke or anything so i dunno... if they replaced it each time someone complained about that they wouldn't make any money

the powder coating on springs is not for aesthetics, it's to protect the coils from corrosion. Rusty coils will be weaker, the spring rate will soften and they will eventually break.

perhaps why bavauto springs are known for sagging..

You knew it was an issue before you bought them. You were well aware of the chance you were taking. Deal with it.

You said they're functioning fine... is it a concours car?

Your reason for rejecting their discount offered on a new set was because you didn't want the finish to just flake off again, however, you're asking for a replacement set...
