I also like the GT. Very X6ish.

And, WHAT is the deal with everyone's avatar? It's a fricken epidemic.

The new one looks like an X6 on bags. Bangle has been chief since '92, there are tons of BMWs after '92 that I would love to own.

Have you ever owned a Suzuki? Much less a Suzuki SUV? My wife had a 4 door Sidekick Sport JLX, that thing was fucking amazing. Incredible gas mileage, plenty of room, and ran amazingly well.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You guys arguing about which is better is a bit silly. All you can go on as a designer is how well your designs are received overall (in other words, by the entirety of your target market)

I think that the BMW designs of the last 5 years or so have generally failed that test.

The Z4 Coupe is a thing of beauty (to my eye). But beyond that, I couldn't say that I really love any of the other designs. I think some are OK, and I think there are some that I could live with, but none that say "Wow! Now that's a BMW!"

The flame siding stuff is OK to my dead eye, but they take it too far. I really, really hate those ugly ass cut lines that he makes on the front and rear fenders. What ever happened to blending that kind of thing into the natural lines of the car instead of forcing them across what should be beautifully curved sheet metal?

I also do not like what has been done with the classic BMW hood design. That nice little hump in the middle that really says "BMW". The whole hood is now domed and makes the noses of the cars look bloated. Even the M3 doesn't come off to me as restrained savagery anymore. It is a bit more like a poorly modded tuner car (ok, not that bad... but you get my drift)

If you don't think BMW design is influential, then you haven't been looking at other manufacturers lately. Flame siding is now pretty common and you still see a lot of the BMW proportions in the Japanese built cars (like always... how many times have you done a double take on an older Corolla thinking it was an E30?)

That 5 GT has a grill that seems to borrow from Audi though, in its size and huge grill thing under the bumper.

Meh, I'd have to disagree with the last sentence. To say that BMW's designs have failed is essentially saying that nobody liked them and thus nobody bought them. Over the last five years, BMW's global sales numbers have been up. Last quarter, sales dropped 25% due to the worldwide recession. Their designs seem to be selling better than they used to.

They rarely publish photos from inside the design studio to prevent future designs being leaked. Shoulda stuck with that rule. Check out the silver car in the background. 6 series?
