    need advice on home audio/recievers/tuners

Im setting up my turntables soon, and I need a receiver/tuner or something with an auxillary function. I was browsing ebay, but im not really sure what im looking at. I need something with decent power, something that can be crisp and loud if i need it to be. Im not getting speakers right now, but i will be looking for them in the future. Mainly I just need advice on what to look for.

You're using the tables to do mixing and whatnot? How many watts are you looking at per channel? I'm assuming that you only want a stereo one?

Yeah, im using tables for mixing. Im not sure how many watts, probably enough to be at a pleasureable level when im on my own, but if someone wanted me to spin a party, I would be capable of having a room pretty loud.
*Edit* Im also in the business of high clarity.

You're going to get a different answer from everyone. I love My Harman Kardon gear. I have an AVR 7500 and ut is clear, has power to spare & has all the inputs/outpots I could hope for. It is equally gifted as a stereo music system as it is as a home theater system.

        Bring on the differing opinions!!!

HK is to much for what they offer.

You can find the same features and quality for less with either a Marantz, Onkyo, or Denon.

I say try Denon or Onkyo.

Give me a price range, and what you want for a setup.

you want pre/power setup with a receiver? need some speakers?

I like Onkyo receivers. My old roommate has one and I am buying one probably this week. I am also going to pick up some Infinity Beta 50 main speakers and matching front/rear center channel speakers.

                    I was talking new.

Buying something refurbed or older model you can find killer deals.

                      Aren't you gonna need something with a phono-input or a phono-preamp?

I use a Hafler Series 9300 It is a THX certified theater amp. Works much better than a receiver. Things like this can easily be found if you know of a movie theater closing or a playhouse, etc.

If you're just looking for something with straight-up pre-amp inputs, you could get away with just getting a stand-alone power amp and plugging your tables directly into it. It doesn't sound like you should get a receiver, as they're usually made for home theatre and have a bunch of unnecessary circuitry. I'd look on eBay for a NAD Pre-amp, and then just get a power stereo amplifier to go along with it.
