i don't know if i agree with your logic on the ecu learning to correct for faults though, i would think that the engine would run worse just after resetting and would get better over time as the ecu learned to correct for the fault. that makes more sense to me, i'm no expert though.

Ooh I see, I know what you're saying. Where would you suggest I look next? I think the next thing I'll do is try a brand new ICV, no harm in that.

the PID loop used to control the idle isn't a learning algorithm anyway. It uses an RPM target based on coolant temperature, the rest is done with real time math. There is no memory.

if you've already cleaned the ICV and it still acts up, yes that would be the next best thing to try. I had one that worked fine except there was a short inside and sometimes it wouldn't turn on when starting the car.. I had to give it a good wack with a screwdriver every once in a while. a little embarrasing when you have to pop your hood to start your car all the time.

Where is the ecu temp sensor? i have a 1984 318i and i have the same problem, all of a sudden it felt like the throttle stuck and now when i start it , it goes up to 3k and stays there and it kinda misses at 3k too .. as it didnt before??? anything guys
