    ugh...sucks soreee

was driving my little e30 around today...

    smelled some gas.

the gas line running from the gas tank too the fuel filter has cracks all on it and its just spitting gas all over the place.

now i had to get my car towed 40 miles home to my garage...and i smell like gas...and i get to go to class reaking.

anyone know how to get that line off the gas tank without dropping the tank?

on mine is was 2 flex lines comming out of the fuel filter. one from the line forward and one from the filter to a hardline. IIRC it is 8mm fuel line (flex)

Ha. I made a thread about this earlier today in the general section. If there's a screw-type clamp on that line, there's no getting to it without dropping the tank. I unbolted the 4 corners of the tank (13mm), then had to unbolt the center exhaust shielding (2 10mm's, 6 13mm's) and use a swivel to get to the center tank bolt. Then there was just enough room to loosen the clamp, and pull that fucking line off. That is.. after I removed the bracket that holds the fuel filter in place (3 10mm's.)

            Have fun!

Am I missing something? Did you guys really pull the tank to change the fuel filter and lines? When I did it, I just cut new sections (totaling about 18in) of fuel injection hose, placed them on the hard lines and mounted a new filter. What is different about your cars?

The clamp on the line going from the tank to the filter cannot be accessed without dropping the tank slightly. Don't know if there's any difference or not, but this issue was on my '91 318is.

yea...i found it easy to take out the back seat and the sound proofing/insulation panels and you have access to the lines. i found that out AFTER i dropped the tank a bit though.

I tried that too, but still could not access that damn clamp. Just out of reach from the hole on the driver's side.
