    e38 engine into e30...worthy?

what would be needed to put an e38 engine into an e30 alpine shell?

    worth it?

    pics? threads?

If I was going V8 I would rather have a GM motor. But do a search theres a few with engines out of a 740.

There is a lot of custom fab work that goes into that swap, and the trannies for that motor are particularly expensive and fairly difficult to find in good condition. Great engine, but for 325ish horses, you'd be better off with a chevy motor that would probably be no more difficult to install, parts are significantly cheaper, compatible trannies are all over the place, and they can put out huge numbers with reletively small mods.

There are lots of pics of said swap. Sweet. But yeah as V8's go, Id probably do an american motor. Thats probably much more cost-effective.

AFAIK you can only put the e38 engine into bronzit shells... alpine won't work because the whatsists sit too close to the hootenanny.

If you have to ask any of those questions you should not attempt the swap.

I mean that in the nicest way possible.

Having said that, the m62 is a wonderful engine, an e30 would be an excellent place to stick it particularly if you have access to a cheap/free one.

American motor=cheap and 740 motor=more bmw loyal, I have seen a couple in magazines, I read that all the tanks (window wash, coolant, etc.) had to be moved to the trunk and the brake booster had to be relocated to the front wheel well. If you want high horsepower then an American engine is the way to go although Icouldn't do it, I would have to put another BMW engine in.

Friend of mine has E38 4,0 in his E30 Touring - purely insane. Insane numbers, insane sound... Handling is insane too ;)

You have to be a true E30 maniac to do that swap I think.

I am hugely BMW loyal too, but I think any swap that isn't an I6 strays away from keeping it BMW, to me a smooth inline 6, rear wheel drive and a balanced car is what makes a BMW.

Agreed, but a pair of I6 engines in a V formation are a killer second, plans for my e24

This place is like catholic school, 2/3 of the students smoke weed on a daily basis, but the faculty seems to convince the outside world that drugs are just in the other schools, the resident pot dealer thinks he's cool because he has the originality to call anyone he doesn't like a homosexual, and most of the little children follow him like sheep, then there's the few with brains, you hardly ever hear from them, perhaps don't even know they exist, but they get all the sh!t done.
