    Scored an M Tech I...

I just scored an M-Tech I steering wheel from eBay for $25 shipped. It's not in great shape but I believe $25 sounds alright for an m-tech I wheel.

This will go on my newly purchased 1991 318i. I heard I need a spacer for perfect installation, am I right ?

yep. a spacer over the wheel, under the washer and nut. I have a couple if you need one.

Also, i recommend sourcing a full set of non-airbag stalks. Otherwise the ones you have are going to be pretty darn close to the wheel. If you have bigger hands, you will bump the stalks on turns

I'm about to be in the same boat, where can I find the spacers? They're not an OEM part are they?

How much will a set of non-airbag stalks roughly cost?

Yes they are an OEM part. You buy 2, on goes on before wheel, wheel, 2nd spacer, washer, nut

I've stacked copper crush washers as spacers on the splined section (to space the wheel out) and a couple of proper sized washers behind the nut so that the M-tech 1 wheel works in airbag cars. Just make sure the horn works and the wheel doesnt wobble before you torque everything down.

this seems like a good application for mcmaster.com

I remember literally ordering like 2 little screws from there and their own delivery guy would come to my house to drop them off

Exactamundo, ordered two of those from my local stealership, put them in and called it a day.

Steering wheel is a little close to the stalks than I'd like, but it hasn't really caused a problem as of yet.

                    How hard is the swap?
                    Relatively easy?

Easy... Can you air your tires up?

If so then changing the steering wheel out shouldn'e be a problem. Hit up the search function, I have mentioned this swap MULTIPLE times in the past year or two...

Is that a photo of the actual wheel?

The leather is practically falling off. Definitely not worth $25.

Meh, throw a wheel skin on it and order a new 4 dollar ///m stripe and enjoy it. It's an upgrade from what you have for sure.

yes that's the one. leather is worn. To be honest I got excited when I saw this on ebay for $9.99 and placed a bid of $9.99.. shipping was $15 and it was kind of late to cancel my bid. If I don't like it I'll probably resell it without a problem.
