I don't understand why you guys think this is such a beater.. because the paint doesnt match? I see no body damage in those pictures, and I bet if the paint was all the same color you would all be going nuts over it.

e30 m3 that 'runs great' and needs paint -

I agree, lets get the scoop on the title - but seriously.. I offered 5k

It can take 10k+ to restore a run of the mill e30, and this is a salvage title e30m3 that looks like it was in the front end accident and needs INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR work and probably also MECHANICAL work as well... you'll have 20-30k into it in no time unless you are ok with it being half-assed lol

I would pass, or buy it to make it a track car that you don't give a shit about but first find out more on what the hell happened to it (accident wise).

you can buy that 45k mile e30m3 for 22k right now. anyone that would let an m3 get to that point didnt do anything right to that car. price out what it will cost to rebuild the motor and paint the car properly and youre over 20k already. he or she will probably get 5k for that pile but whoever buys it better have track rat plans for it or theyre going to get fucked in the ass

              Agreed.

It is never smart to put large amounts of money into a car with a salvage title, NEVER. You would be better off throwing money away in the stock market than that pile of shit. That car is nothing more than a track rat period and even at that I would not pay more than $3000 the way it sits...

My friend does this all the time, if your in the business of restoring and have a shop (Autobody in this case) this car is a dream come true. Steam clean the engine and a good paint job and you will have your self a very nice e30 m3. I've seen rx7's 10000x worse and still be built up. Assuming your going to keep it though. Selling depending on the salvage title or if you can get the salvage expunged then maybe.

I'd have to agree. It all depends on how capable you are.
Knowing how to do your own paint and body work can save you thousands.

you can't expunge a salvage title in california.
you guys are nuts if you think a beater, salvage title, 200k e30 m3 is a good bargain at 5k. even if you do your own body and paint work for free, you're still going to have to buy the materials. even if you do a minimal amount of mechanical (resealing and timing chain), and assuming the dash isn't cracked and the seats aren't shot (which they probably are), and assuming the suspension and steering components are ok (which they probably aren't), you're still talking about several thousand dollars worth of parts and materials. who here has priced out the s14 timing chain and components lately? good paint and primer?
is your time free? mine isn't.
on top of all that, you still have a salvage title which will take a minimum of 30% of the asking price unless you find a stupid buyer.
