    m40 318i ecu run a m40 316i?

    just a quick one here.

ive a 89 touring and ive just put in a 316i m40 engine,i know your all saying why i did that, simple couldnt find a 318i m40 engine anywhere realy.

right back to the question, ive put in 1.6 engine, but was forced to use the tourings 1.8 ecu and inlet manifold/injectors,and still using the 1.6 afm.

a right mix of bits,it does run but not great.

    i think its over fueling

sure let me hear your thoughts

Unless you are a seasoned tuner who has a thorough understanding of engine design, it is not a good idea to Frankenstein a motor the way you did because you will end up with screwed up idling, power delivery, and fuel economy characteristics. The manifold, exhaust, injectors and ECU for engine X generally are not designed to work with the power and fuel economy characteristics of engine Y, even if they fit.

That said, if you can find a way to increase the stroke of the engine in your car by 7mm, it should run correctly as I believe the 1.8L M40 is just a stroked up 1.6L version.
