On vacation I had reserved a Mustang convertible, and when I arrived there were only Toyota Avalons available if I just had to have a convertible. I was in california and my girlfriend was with me, so there was no option but to take the avalon.

whaaaaat a fucking shitbox. shuddered over every seam in the pavement, loud tires, a transmission that couldn't decide, just terrible. First impression tarnished by KFC grease spots throughout. Someone had a lot more fun than I did with that car.

Without a doubt, the worst car I have ever driven is the Toyota Corolla. It has about as much going for it as a glass of air. Blandest car EVER.

Tie between early '90s Toyota Paseo and recent Dodge Nitro.

Probably a friend's 91 Toyota Tercel...dangerously weak, brakes would overheat and start to smell hot after going down hills...in the city. Felt tinny, cheap, and tiny...scary to be in around SUVs and semis.

    It's a toss-up between a 1992 325i I looked at and a pos 1991 Chevy van.
Went and test drove a 92 325i. It didn't go into reverse, would grind into 1st, and wouldn't shut off when the key was removed from the ignition. I had to stall it in gear to turn it off.
91 chevy van. 'tis one of the vehicles I drive for work. Steering is incredibly loose, no brake lights/weak brakes. Rowdy body roll and bounce around a turn - shocks blown. And it's a 91 van, it looks like someone shat on it.

some few year old nissan van. it was like driving a yacht. sharp corners, no way. I hit so many curbs that night, I had to swing it out wide like a god damn semi. super soft handling. you can't see any of the huge ass it has. I was used to the e30s giant windows, where you can see everything around you. Not in this tinted out oil freighter. The backup camera was useless as it was retard fisheye, and made random beeping noises. The motor was surprisingly strong though. The multitude of rear seats makes it A- for sexing.

Though one of the coolest looking machines ever, it was one sorry piece of shit (I have to admit that this idiocy has taken me more than once. I've put together two more since then and pretty much the same result, a toy better left to the history books than on the road.

Next one that strikes me at the moment was a '79 530i (e14) that fucker couldn't make it out of the driveway without cracking a head (thermal reactors, what idiot asshole came up with that?)

But I do belive the tops in fucked up machines has to be International Harvester Travel-all, basically a Suburban built for "Jedidiah the farmer" they should have come with bailing wire and duct tape in the factory tool kit, even the gas tank fell out of this one.
My first BMW was a 1977 528i (or was it a 530i?) - I can't remember as I only had the car for a month.

The odometer read 97k, but I don't know if that was actual as CarFax doesn't go back that far.

It was also an automatic and reverse went out on it, then the head gasket blew, both within 500 miles of driving.

After that, I swore I would never buy another BMW again but several years later when I was looking for inexpensive, dependable transportation, the E30 kept getting mentioned and I bought an 86 325es which I put 40k on without any issues until it was stolen, and later bought the current E30 cabby I currently own.

But that 77 5 series was a total POS

Another POS I owned was an early-80's MBZ 240D

Dangerously slow, although it would cruise nicely once it got up to hiway speed as long as there weren't any uphills and it was a well-built car.

But the 82 or so HP was scary, especially here in the SF Bay Area where there are a lot of hills.

1994 Subaru Loyale wagon. God, what a piece of shit. My dad owned this thing for over 10 years and it was NA, 5-speed, and had the electronic 4wd engage button. He sold it at around 170k mi, still with the original clutch. It will live on forever as the least powerful car i've ever experienced. When you have to turn off the air conditioning and rev match downshift into 3rd to make it up a hill on the highway, buy a new vehicle. And god, the electrical problems. This thing ate batteries every six months. Whenever you'd pop the hood there would be a nice coating of sulfuric acid over anything within a 2ft radius of the battery tray. I certainly won't miss being shook awake at 5:45 am to help bump start it by pushing it down the street in my underwear.

pt cruiser, rental. No town-cars at the miami airport (I usually get those at a great rate). They put me in it with no apologies and with no prospect of an upgrade. I drove it in 2nd gear for a week.

I have driven a lot of crappy cars in my time but the worst has to be a Chevy Caviler. It was about 10 years ago. The wife, kids and I flew to Orlando to Disney and all the rental place had was the Cavilers left. What a POS. That thing had no power, the doors didnt work very good. Sounded like riding around in a beer can. God that thing was awful.
