        LOL, You've got some serious shit on your GC. Nice. :)

        I'm leaning more toward a GC, because I want something comfortable to ride in...and the Cherokee does not look comfortable at all.

            Always exceptions to the rule. ;) But I assumed he wasn't turning a daily Cherokee into a sweet off roading machine.

            The Cherokees in general don't excite me, I loved our Wrangler. I want to say it was a YJ, but I haven't hung around in the Jeep world for a while.
            The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

              Cherokee = XJ
              Wrangler w/ square headlights = YJ
              Wrangler w/ round headlights = TJ

              Pre-Wrangler
              CJ-7 (With square doors)
              CJ-8 Scrambler (With square doors)
              CJ-5 (With small fender cut doors)
              CJ-6 Scrambler (With small fender cut doors)

              Liberty = KJ
              Commanche = MJ

              93-98 Grand Cherokee = ZJ
              99-04 Grand Cherokee = WJ
              05- Grand Cherokee = WK (I think)

                i had a '98 jeep wranglr tj that i just got rid of for a montero.. but those were the days.. wranglers are the most badass offroading car because you can do so much to them.. and their jeeps... cherokees are pretty good too...

                  Is you choose the ZJ, I recomend you go with 96-98 models, not the 93-95 models, honestly I rather pick up the XJ because is more quick in response, and best of all is more bullet proof than the ZJ, is stronger!!

                  Trust me, I'm a delaer of Jeep Dodge and Chrysler and I know them perfectly!!!

                  If the Jeep is for your own use and don't have childrens, go with the XJ! if not choose the ZJ , but pick up the V8 model both will give you (ZJ) 4.0L & 5.2L about hte smae MPG, so is pretty easy the answer.....

                    I dunno what you mean by how is called the XJ 87-90s but those are eaters of uel!! and doesn't run correctly like a 91-UP version (High Output) , the old system is called Rexin, many parts are from renualt/peugot , wich really sucks!

                    My actualñly Xj is from 1987, the only one made by AMC fuel injected, I swapped the entire 4.0L and wire harnees & ECu froma ZJ 1994 in mine and it's day and night, by today is stroked and soon to be turbocharged by the way! :D

                      I just checked out the GC pictured on the first page. Very nice. Exterior looks to be absolutely flawless except for some paint peeling on the little fins behind the side windows...very easily repainted. '96 V8, 129,000 miles, pulls strong, idles smooth. Almost new Michelin tires. Interior is kind of a pukey tan, and usual wear and tear, but still nice condition. Infinity Gold CD/Cass stereo. All the typical luxury items of the Limited.

                      One thing I noticed is that the suspension seems to be stiffer than in my dad's '94. Did they upgrade the suspension a little when they did the facelift? Rides better in either way.

                      Diego, I don't have kids, and I could get away with the Cherokee, but I think I just want something more luxurious. I've probably got 5 years on 90% of the people on this board, and as I get older, rough riding cars get kind of exhausting to be driving every day. Especially for the daily commute to work at 6:30 am.

                          SHUT UP! :P they aren't! The XJ is the warrior of the unibody frames of the Jeep familly!

                          beeJ'es , yeah, comparing stoc to stock factory shocks and suspension the 93-95 editions eems to be more soft, 96-98 added the obd II system better dash, smoother response of the Magnum 5.2-5.9L engines with better MPG(just a bit) and many othe things, included the suspension for better cornering or whatever handle issues you could have, that's why they are bit stiffer but you are more "on" the road!

                            The bastards sold the Grand Cherokee last night that I was prepared to buy today. Went looking around today and found exactly what I was wanting. Bought a white 2000 Cherokee Classic today. I love it. Pickin it up Monday, so I'll get some pictures. It's exactly what I was looking for though, the interior is more comfy than the older ones.

                              I've got a '93 GC 4..0 with a 6.5" lift on 35's. I drive mine daily (very painfully I might add), and have never had any reliability problems, nothing that wasnt caused by my beating on it. But, Its really a toss up. XJ's have a little less to go wrong, but they also have coil/leaf setup while ZJ's have coils all around, so the ride on the ZJ is slightly better. My ZJ had 163,500 miles on it when I got ahold of it. My 4.0 is still very strong and doesn't burn any oil. A common problem on the 4.0 is the rear main seal which costs ~400 when it goes, but thats really about it. If you get a ZJ 4x4, make sure it has the NP242 Transfer case (selectable 4lo, 4high, N), not the NV249 (Quadra-Trac), which is all-time 4WD. The 249 T-cases often have problems with the Viscous Coupler and have to be replaced or rebuilt which usually goes from $500-$1000. If you have any questions, let me know. If you decide to lift it though, it never ends, there is always more to be done.

                              You could say the same thing about e30's if they arent maintained. Also, its an American SUV, its not perfect, but its better than most any other american SUV

                                I knew you were going to pick up the XJ :up: You got the correct Jeep model/familly!

                                it's more compact and strong, it shouldn't give you troubles...Some units came from factory with bad lluck and other don't , kinda weird if you ask me, but trust me, I make all the days service the Jeeps and every thing that sometimes happen I just can't believe....good luck!
