and get a 540 with a 6 speed. Ive seen a few on c/l in the price range I want. Ive never driven one yet whats the power like on them? at 3700 pounds with 282hp I dont think it would be to impressive but I like the look of the E39. I guess im just trying to find a general opinion of the e39

theyre fun. I had some experience with the smaller displacement 530i (sport 5spd) which moved for what it was. Maintenance is comparable to the e39 M5 from what i hear. when things go wrong they are super expensive to get fixed. its not like wrenching on an M20. i would personally love to have one as well but buck up the extra $$ for a better car.
