    Dash Weight

I was wondering if anyone has shipped a dash and if you have how much it weighs. I have not pulled mine out of my car yet and was wanting to quote the shipping to a fellow member. Thanks for any info you can give.

I have pulled a dash but never weighed it. Seemed like about 15-20 pounds.

Just weighed one, 17lbs with the wiring, ducts and vents still in place.

The weight is not the issue though, it's the size which drives the cost up.

Thanks, yeah I estimated it at twenty pounds. I was wanting to hear if anyone has actually shipped one before. I have had one out before but have never shipped one.

Speaking of which, what's your best price for a new dash?

Why do they just go up like that? I'd be interested in one at ~$600, but $1200 is insane.

I've shipped an E30 dash twice; same one, incidentally.

I bought one while I was travelling for work (craigslist find) and was really pressed for time to ship it back home, so I took it to a 'Mailboxes , etc' place and paid entirely too much. $150 for the construction of a custom box and UPS ground

Once I got it home, I decided to sell. Listed it on eBay, charged $70 for S&H, reused the custom box, and only paid $27 for FedEx ground via my employer's discounted commercial rate.

I found DHL to be the cheapest for large items, without the benefit of a corporate discount, back when I did the research.

                          Hope this helps.

Is DHL still operational? I know the went bankrupt or something but I'm not sure if the are restructuring or what.

they only do international express shipments now. If you sign up for a fedex account and call in they may give u a special discount, just say u are a ebayer and are switching over from DHL.
