Stu, I'm curious: What power figures are you putting to the rear wheels and roughly what are your acceleration times?

I'm planning on eventually dropping in an OBDI M52 into my new (just bought) '91 Diamondschwarz 318is ;)

With a lean chip (chip i used for break-in..RD 325i chip), it put 227hp/212tq to the wheels, on the dynojet. I'm now running a chip that was designed by Jim Blair of BMW NA, it was an experiment of his back in '95 when he got his hands on the new M3. The car is much stronger now.

But weight is the important factor. my 318 tips the scales at just over 2600, 150-200 pounds lighter than an E30 325is, and over 550 pounds lighter than an E36 M3. with the right driveline setup, alum. flywheel, etc...it hauls

only acceleration time i have is 50-80 in 3rd gear, 4.0-4.1s
Was in the 7's/8's wih the M42, depending if the a/c was on.

Stu Mc, how much heavier do you suppose the front end of the car is now that the s50 is in?

Im determined to have a s50 in the car next summer. I bought my Bilsteins and H&Rs for the 318is, but I want to start building my suspension and brakes before the engine swap. Do you think that I should keep my shocks, and swap the springs with something made for a 325? Or I was thinking of getting GCs.

NC has enough to form our own M42/318 club.

Yeah, I've thought about it for a while. It would be sort of like a SIG (special interest group). The M3's have one :)
