wow getting the texture off the valances is a pain, even with aircraft remover and razor blades.
Bumpers all sanded down, taurus skirts cut glued and sanded, i even sanded down the top edge of the skirts so it doesn't have that stepped look. Volvo lip cut and sanded.
Once I get the valances ready everything will be ready for primer paint and clear!
Will post pics when It's back together.

Yeah so I "finished" a while ago and wasn't as pleased with the results as I thought I would be. What should have been a relatively easy makeover turned into a huge project and nothing worked out the way I planned. Does it ever? So I've been procrastinating the photo taking process because I'm mad at the car, but it's time, a dude is holding his breath after all.
The plan was supposed to go like this: repaint the front/rear bumpers, strip and paint the front/rear valances, paint and mount volvo lip and taurus side skirts. DIY Hella smoke headlights, red/smoke/clearcoat tails. Be done in 3 days and drive around with a smile.
How things actually went down: Stripping the valances was a huge pain and a lot harder than i thought/read it would be. I used the Aircraft paint remover gel, generously, in several coats, and it still took me 5-6 hours worth of scraping with a razor blade and sanding to get down to the metal. I managed to have enough paint to spread 3 thin coats on everything but realized when the pint was half gone that I wasn't going to have enough for the side skirts. I paid $47 for the pint of zinnoberrot and couldn't afford to buy more. I managed to get just barely enough coverage, using the paint til the very very last drop. The 2K clearcoat in the can did not last long and dripped everywhere. I don't know why I thought I would get more out of it but needless to say it's spread so thin that I'm afraid to wetsand out the orange peel for fear of sanding off the whole coat of clear. The color does not match, the new red is much brighter and I don't think it's just that the old paint is faded. The old paint seems darker and actually a different hue of red, so I have no clue wtf is wrong. It's close enough to match when the car is dirty. I'm going to take a polisher and some cleaner/polish/wax and see if it brightens it up enough to match but i'm not optimistic.
The volvo lip was a bastard to me and I didn't like the way it was going to look so I bought a new IS lip from Tischer BMW which was shipped out the same day I bought it and arrived 2 days later, primed and ready for paint. those guys rock. I also bought new fogs because the old ones were falling apart. Yes they are chinese, Yes they look good anyway, Yes I'll buy a new pair every year if I have to. Yes I like chinese food. Yes I am done.
So now I'm another one of those d-bags with painted front/rear valances and black in the middle. I need to either commit more money to buy more zinnoberrot/clear or find a rattle can red that matches well enough. I really have to get the skirts on. If anyone has any color suggestions it would be very helpful.
Once I got everything back together I was not down to do the headlights and taillights but I'll do them soon.
It took me a lot longer than I thought it would and cost me a lot more than I thought it would and it's not all bad. it still looks a lot better than it did and I'm having a lot of fun driving it.
Also, I adjusted the valves and was really disappointed that it didn't quiet the car down more. I feel more power and overall smoother power delivery but thought maybe I did it wrong because it was still so loud. I learned that I'm supposed to be running 20/50 engine oil, did an oil change and WOW, super holy way quieter and not embarrassed to say.. so far.. proper oil change is the best mod I've done. Headlight smoke, taillight paint, sideskirt completion, Redline MTL for the tranny and tint for the glass are all next.
I didn't wash it, cry about it.
Thanks for watching.

That doesn't look too bad at all, the side skirts will really help it. It seems like you are doing a lot of work in a short time, keep it up.1985 M10b18. 70maybewhpoffury. Over engineered S50b30 murica BBQ swap in progress.
