Hey everyone, new to the forum

I am sure those of you that surf bf.c have seen me posting. I just bought my 1st E30 yesterday. Its a 1989 325i auto(ftl) with 167k miles. I got a pretty good deal and I am pretty happy with my purchase. The first item needed for the car is to fix the power steering leak. I believe that it is on one of the lines that connects to the rack, but I am not sure. I am going to take a closer look tomorrow and see where that gets me. As soon as that and a couple other issues are taken care of, I am going to start tackling a manual swap. The other couple issues I have are a whooshing sound from the back(likely drives side). I think that might be the wheel bearing, but I am really hoping not. The other problem is the front shakes(felt through steering wheel) at freeway speeds. I assume it could be out of balanced wheels(tires are cheap on there) or the fact that it has 2 different sized tires right to left. Anyways, if anyone has an insight on these problems let me know! Cool...If you don't want to deal with the power steering right now, you can just take the belt off the pump. At speed it is fine and is still manageable even when stopped seeing as the wheels/tires aren't too big or wide.
Looks like a good start...

The whooshing will probably turn out to be a wheel bearing. Fix the PS leak, don't cut the belt. As far as the vibration, it could be a myriad of things. But to start, take these steps.

do the timing and water pump
change the fluids inc. the diff and tranny.
Make sure the brakes are in good shape
Go through all your bushings and tierods/ control arms.
Make a list of what you need to replace (most likely all the rubber underneeth) and compile parts untill you have everything you need to do it all at once. Then.......
Take a weekend and sort out the rear end. Bushings, wheel bearings, Guibo, any shift linkage, muffler supports, tailight gaskets, antenna grommet, etc. The next weekend or a weekend in the future do the exact same thing to the front.

I would def make a list by priority (first being timing belt) and just knock out the major stuff as quickly as you can. It took me @ three months to sort my car out, and barring the rare hiccup, I have had a trouble free e30 that i am proud of for 5 years.
Stay organized, ask questions, and SEARCH this forum. There is a vast amount of info and alot of knowledgable e30 owners on here.

every e30 is worth posting. Many new members post their cars as a jumping off point so we know what they drive. For instance, I know you are the guy who made some weirdo basket on the top of your bike rack, maybe b/c he couldn't afford the $250 rack that is supposed to go up there. And I am sure you thought when you posted it it was worthy of a thread... but maybe some people didn't. Did they say some BS like, get a real rack then post up some pics. Probably not.
You should get a real rack though, it looks like you strapped a walmart pallet to the top of your car.
And yes, that was a shot at you (how did it feel? Probably better than how a brand new member felt when you decided to tell him his car isn't worthy of a pic thread yet). And there are plenty of pics of my car up here.

You know, i honestly respect that man... i think you took my first post the wrong way though. I'm glad my car is my car, cus #1 its not a bike rack and #2 i honestly don't give a fuck if you, or any one else on here likes it or not, i didn't make it for you guys. ;)


i didn't buy an e30 planning on doing anything at all with it really besides dropping it, everything else just kinda happened when i realized how much stuff i could do to it so inexpensively and have a car that stands out in the usual car crowd in my area. Then i fell in love with e30's, got on the forums and realized if you didn't have 2ooo bbs and gc's that you weren't good enough. my bad. lulz

besides that point though. OP do something and take good pics and rock the shit out of it. i just can't stand stock cars in general.

There you go. Now apoligize to the OP for telling him to mod his car in order to make it worth posting. Because what i am reading is that his car isn't worth posting b/c it is bone stock. Or am I reading what you said wrong?
