Yeah you aren't getting what i said at all. Why don't you try doing a double take.

edit: I'm not saying that stock e30's can't be really nice looking, I just prefer to see a nicely modified e30 over a stock one by a long shot. OP you will love you car 10x more once you start playing with it and do some mods, thats all :)

This got fun really fast. Once i get the PS leak taken care of I will probably do the timing belt. the wheel bearing is going to be another fun one. The car is not undriveable as it is(and I have other cars to drive) so maybe I will attack that and some other diff/subframe stuff at the same time.

The color is royalblau, tho the clear coat is toast in some areas. I am still debating what I will do as far as paint/other body stuff, I am just looking to get this running well before I do much else. Its also an auto(fail) so converting that is pretty high on the list of things to do.

Yeah man wheel bearings, timing belt, and pretty much everything else on these cars are a piece of cake... just jump into it and get your feet wet its really hard to mess anything up. And if you get caught up on something this site will give you more than enough 1st hand experience help.

Once you get this car up to speed and running well, do you have any major plans?

after the manual swap, i want to refresh the suspension/brakes and hit the track. I dont think I will ever seriously race this particular car, but it will definitely be a track oriented toy.

Ok, so i am going to do some maintenance later on today. I am pretty sure the rear noise is coming from the diff, so after I change the oil, I will see where I am at. Anyone know what could cause the front end to vibrate at 40mph or more? I have not determined if the wheels/tires are out of balance, but if they check out, what else should I look for?

hey, nice car to start with!

as far as track cars go: there are some pretty awesome track cars on here ... that's probably a really good way to get inspiration for any modifications you may want to make.

I got under the car to inspect a little today, and it looks like both the tie rod ends and the control arms have seen better days. How much do the replacements cost?

Check the ball joints carefully, as they can cause all kinds of shimmy.

I use AKG Urethane control arm bushings. Easy install, not too bad to get apart/swap. Replace both entire control arms with all 4 ball joints and new CABs for like $250ish, then new tie rods (do the inner, too) for like $120...new strut mounts when you do springs/struts so all the front suspension is good to go.

Rears, like trailing arm bushings and subframe bushings are an absolute bitch, so unless you have a press and can get the car on a lift, pay someone else to do that shit.

Hit BMAparts.com, ask for Patrick. He is R3Vs official guy there, but also check Pelican, maybe Blunt Tech if he deals in mundane shit like that.

Stay away from the cheap chinese control arms. Several have broken while normal-for-an-E30 driving. If money is that tight, buy new Lemforder or Meyle ball joints and have a machine shop press them in.

                            GL!

as in "refresh" the suspension you really mean "drop it to the ground on some wicked coilovers", right?

Thanks a lot for the info, I found out most of that stuff based on my own research. I might swap in an E36 steering rack, so if/when I do that i am definitely do the tie rod ends. I just wish i knew whether it was an unbalanced wheel issue that causes my shimmy. I might just buy new tires for the bottlecaps for dirt cheap and see where that gets me

I will most likely get some sport springs and shocks(likely used), but if the right deal arises for coilovers, I might just have to jump on them. I am going to try to set this up for more serious track use, not solely for stance.
