I really dont know if all 20 of the turbo kits they put together for the e30 were dealer new or not. I do recognize the terracota connectors and Dinan piping, although half of the couplers and piping had to be replaced when i changed out the intercooling system b/c of the damage.

I do have a question though, is the turbotronics 4 the only software box they put in the m3? I've got the same ecu you pictured, but i also have turbotronics 5 (a smaller silver box) as well. Funny thing is... all that stuff was originally installed in the glove box of the original car. Or at least it was by the time i got my hands on it... the original white car had 3 owners before me, anything could have happened i guess. And i know for a fact that all of the paper work never made it past the first owner, as he died and the car was sold by his mother. In addition, i dont think Dinan touched the engine internals of the 325i turbo cars. At least not on the donor car i got the motor and turbo out of. Makes sense though since the compression on the m20 is a lot lower then that of the s14. I guess i'll never really know, unless i can get some old brochures and such. I'll find them one day though... haha. Anyway... thanks for the info again.

The motor was rebuilt, and a piggyback system was setup by the 2nd owner(the one who rebuilt the drivetrain, and is the local bmw mechanic in coeur d' alene, although he retired early) because the car had been sitting for so long, and dinan wanted the car shipped to florida for them to tune because the tune was running rich in places when we dyno'd, so a piggyback was installed. The car came like this from dealer setup by Dinan, they ran OZ Fittipaldi 3 piece wheels in 15x7. Now do you understand why I'm saying yours is only a clone, the car was built on a specific chassis and sold by dinan this way. Maybe you should learn more and see what people are willing to tell you before you pass judgments and personally slander people. But what do I know, I've never driven the car.

Now I understand what your asking. If I recalled correctly all 6 Dinan E30 M3 where sold new in different colors. Im not too sure about the E30s. Yes the Dinan box is the only ECU I have in my car. Back then I was thinking of rechipping the car but the techs could not find the ecu :p Then after knowing about the other 2 with over 180k miles and had no major problems and was used in the track and as a DD. I decided to leave mine alone since I only have 65k orig miles. I still have long ways to go. BTW the car will be featured in the next issue of Bimmer magazine. The editor interviewed Steve Dinan himself to talk about the car. It should be out late Sept.

I found some pics back then when I had the car restored. I also have tried a few shoes for it as well. From the shop the same day straight she goes to her photoshoot for Performance BMW with my previous white M3.

First of all.... the car still runs rich. Second of all... the original ECU and "piggy back," (aka Turbotronics 5 by Dinan Engineering Inc.) was never, ever touched by either the second owner nor James himself. And it most certainly was not installed to correct the rich issue. Those are James' words. The second owner never touched the tune... period. All he did was rebuild the motor with stock parts b/c it had a blown head gasket. I have all of the receipts from the second owner's build, and i've had many lengthy conversations with James about the car before i paid a great deal of money to purchase the original car and ship it 3000 miles.

Once again... you are misinformed not only about Dinan as a company, but now you've also proven to be misinformed about the actual car. If you have anything else to say to me, be courteous to this thread and PM me.

Alvin, yours is a very clean example of the original build. It was probably a good idea to keep it the way it came. I'm actually pretty tempted to replace the ecu system altogether to not only fix my rich issue, but to also free up some more power as well. A rechip might do the trick though as well. Great build, i feel like i've seen some of the pictures you posted in your article in PBMW.
