My 'other' BMW (non e30 content)

So I just got in from a two-day drive, picking up my 'other' car.
Long story short: both my wife and I are in the military. We were both stationed in Missouri. Earlier this year I transfered up to WA State (home) while my wife stayed in MO until last week, when she deployed to Iraq. One she gets back from her deployment, she will also be PCS'ing to WA as well.
Where does that leave us? Well our 2nd car, which my wife had kept in MO, got to come home with me yesterday (and today).
She is made by BMW, but you have to look hard to find the roundels...

    She's a 2008 Mini Cooper S which I traded my e36 in for (with a little extra cash ;)).
All I can say is, while it is a four-banger and it is FWD it is an AWESOME car. The 2000 mile trip reafirmed that. More power than my M50 powered e36 had, and half the heft.
Since I have some 'alone' time with the car I have a few plans for it. But, when it drops off Warrantee thats when the fun starts...

The plan that is currently in the works is Koni Coilovers and then 17" Team Dynamics Pro Race wheels. The BBS LMs got vetoed by my wife, and then by my wallet, and then by my wife's wallet...

More immediately I'm making the 'non-functional' hood scoop 'functional' as soon as parts come in.

You should get some Rota grid, 16x8 ET10 or ET20 :)

They don't really do it for me, they just seem a little too JDM for a Mini. These are what are in store, Brit wheels for a Brit car...

Some pics borrowed from the interwebz:

Both are on first-gen New Minis, and I think the wheels are the Pro Race 1, they are now doing the 1.2 version in Mini fitment.

I think the Pro race 1.2's will look great.. Those are definitely 1's on that car, the 2's have a smooth transition from face to hub. I would do coilovers, wheels and leave it alone. Mini's don't need much IMO

I agree that the Minis don't need much. The only real mods other than suspension and wheels that are going to be made are going to be to address the main known problem with the car, that is under-hood airflow and cooling.
I've got a DDM Race intake system on order that turns the blocked-off hood scoop into a functional ram-air intake and also diverts some air to cool the turbo. I am also adding a wrap to the hot-side of the turbo to further keep under-hood temps down.
Other than that everthing else is pretty much going to be cosmetic or convenience related. BMW really engineered a good car in the Cooper S.
