Personally I think good news would be a totalled car that I could fully repair for $800 and $8k in my pocket, but that's just me.
Well shes totaled :(

I thought it was totaled from the beginning, then the adjuster came to look at it and said might be totaled the value of the car is between 7-9k. They sent me an email saying they estimate 2800 to repair it and the check is on its way. I'd rather have this car fixed than see it get a salvage title.

Normally I don't get involved in pointless threads like this...but you sir, are completely full of shit. I think we all figured that out when you showed up at a get-together and claimed that someone offered you $15K for your car.
Did you honestly think that noone at a BMW gathering would know that you, or on even the highest end, some idiot that found your car to be worth $15K were nothing short of idiots? Any asshole can search autotrader, ebay, or on a stretch some forums and find that they could get ten times the car for that money. C'mon.
Beyond that, I used to work as an insurance adjustor and I will guarantee you that no one ever said your car was worth $7-9K without you giving them some BS like you are giving us. More commonly, estimates on a total loss or payout are based on a legitimate shop estimate. Attempted insurance fraud is not entertaining, funny or informational...it ends up costing us all more in our premiums in the end.
Take your car to a reputable shop, get it repaired and stop wasting our time. I'm here to learn about E30s and discuss them further in the process. I just get so frustrated about all of the BS I find in this thread and others. Sorry, but you really struck a nerve on my end with your bad driving, bullshit stories, attempted insurance fraud and then possibly trying to sell a damaged vehicle to an unsuspecting buyer. People like you make me sick.Comment

this guys story stinks like last weeks cottage cheese, but for the last time, only shitty insurance companies use KBB to value your car. Most of them have a database of recent sales, they try to find the ones most similar to yours and use that to value it. KBB has nothing to do with market value, at all.Comment

I'm in the San Francisco area...I'm selling my 08 xterra very soon. What are you looking for? What's 15k sound to you?
This is so perfect, EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Thanks! Completely willing to negotiate.

Also why would they fix my car if the value of the car is 3200 and the repairs according to insurance are going to be just near that? Obviously its worth more than that. I am in no way committing insurance fraud by bringing my car to a friends body shop that does insurance claims and getting a discount from them. I'm buying my own parts to save money.
I am getting it repaired by a reputable shop, you're obviously wasting your own time by reading this thread that's your choice not mine.
Sorry I wrecked my car, its happened to a lot of us at some point in time, this is my 3rd rwd car and my first accident next time I'm obviously going to be more careful.
Also my story isn't bs, I assumed it was totaled from the beginning and I'm just going by what the adjuster told me my car was worth by their standards. I'm glad its not totaled because I really enjoy this car. I never said I'm going to sell the car without telling a potential buyer it was in an accident, you just assume that beacuse I said it will have a clean title. I'm happy about the clean title because the value will be higher than that of a salvage vehicle. Hope that answers all of your questions.

Okay, you win. Everyone else is wrong. You are right. Congrats. I'm going to go sell my car to some dude in San Francisco for $10K now. He'll love the fact that my car is in similar condition and is 5K cheaper than yours. :)Comment
