Not really planning on boosting the M30 (although I'm deadly tempted). I am trying to push as much reliability as possible, and a turbo setup would cost thousands to achieve reliability.

I'm already having enough issues with overheating on an N/A car (which I seem to be cursed by water temp), so I don't think I'll be pushing boost on this one :p

I know where you're coming from, I've been there:

That's my old turbo M20. :) I loved my turbo setup very much, but it was still a pain to keep it cool. When I finally got a proper cooling setup, everything kinda came together and pointed me to the M30, so I decided to try something new. So far I love it... for drifting I'd recommend an M30 over an M20 any day of the week, even with the M20 being a great motor to begin with.

                DO WORK SON!! :pimp:

Glad to see you're having fun on the track again Erick! :D

Put a spintech on that m30, they sound sick as fuck on bigger motors! :woowoo:

As far as your cooling issues, are you running Water Wetter and a lower degree thermostat? That would help if your not. Also look into an upgraded water pump.

It seems that it's an airflow problem. When the car sits, the temperature is fine. Then you drive, the fan (always on) keeps it just on the edge of the blue on the temp gauge. The problem starts when you go sideways.

I guess the lack of direct airflow starts having the motor warm up. On two passes the temperature will go from the edge of blue to half. Another pass (without a cool down lap) will put me at 3/4 temp. So at the speedway I was doing cool down laps after every pass.

I was considering doing better openings for the radiator, but I'm considering that the high mileage m30 has rust deposits in it and its blocking some flow.

what if you delete the stock fan and install two custom fans mounted by the radiator area with a toggle switch? how would that affect direct airflow to cool down not only the radiator, but also the engine?

I'm using a really powerful SPAL pusher fan. No room for stock fans on the e30 engine bay with an M30 out there :p
