so i did work.
I put in rear springs from a '95 M3 and it really helped the ride. They seem to be the same size as the old ones, but the old ones appear to be mis-matched. I think somebody's been in here before...
The ride height is still lower than I'd hoped. Not too bad, though..
Before:
After:
The rear clunk seems to have gone away. Maybe the new spring pads helped. I did notice that I need new rear sway links. The rubber is so deteriorated that I think they might be original...
And did you notice the piece jutting into the pic from below? That's the e-brake cable! Completely severed. And the other side is holding on by a thread...
So more $ and time. It shouldn't be too hard, though. And the disk backing plates seem fine, so that's good. I think I'll be putting some of these projects on hold, though, as I'm shifting focus...
I did keep my lack of focus long enough to install my tunes, though! I missed having music... the stock unit wasn't cutting it.
Then the other day it wouldn't start in the grocery parking lot... It started but quickly died out. Then would crank and try to fire, but wouldn't. I tried everything I could think of w/o tools, but towed it home and put in new plugs the next morning. After plugs, it fired right up but had a massive wandering idle from 1k to 2,500 rpm constant. Pulled it in the garage and changed the fuel filter (and a hose), cleaned the AFM, and cleaned the isv...
After priming the fuel line due to the filter replacement, it fired right up and ran well! No wandering idle, no stalling... back to normal. Also, the coil and AFM checked out ok w/ the multimeter.
Also, while letting it run, I noticed my exhaust is a bit loud. It appears it's leaking around a cob-job of welding on the down-pipe...
Isn't there supposed to be a flex joint there?
So I did a compression test and got:
1 - 150
2 - 145
3 - 140
4 - 135
5 - 135
6 - 130
The Bentley has the range b/w 142 - 156 psi. So it's not so bad for a 230k+ car. So I took it for a drive, and checked the starting while rolling down hill. I was able to get it to crank w/ the key while coasting, so I thought I had it licked. Stopped for gas and same damn thing happened. ug. Figited w/ wires and plugs and then called my buddy Karl (iX brethren). He thought it might be the fuel pump or fpr. I tried getting the fuel line off before the tow truck driver got there to see if I could relieve the fuel pressure from the rail and try it (thinking the pressure was too high from the fpr).
The driver showed up and helped me get it off and back on. No gas, no go. He offered to listen for the pump at the access panel, and heard nothing. Then he said to try cranking it, and he whacked the bottom of the fuel tank below the pump repeatedly until the car fired right up!! I got it to hold an idle and gave the guy $10... he said I got it running before he got there. score.
I've then learned the VDO pump for this car is $190ish. UG. After searching around I found the walbro replacement threads on R3V and e30tech and have one on the way. I'm anxious to get it going again...
Which reminds me, anybody got some über cheap 4x100 ~ET43 wheels & maybe decent tires? I need to get the winters off the car since the Rado isn't ready yet.sigpic winter = iX goodness
