      it looks great.

but the rims look really cramped with that brake set up. it needs 16s.

Thanks for all the compliments, much appreciated!

My E30 is an example of "project creep". What was supposed to have been a simple "drop the S52 I pulled out of my E36/S54 project into my '88 Schwarz automatic winter car and have a fun daily beater" turned into a bit more.

I bet a lot of you know how it goes... oh, let's clean things up a bit. Look, a great deal on some iX flares in charcoal, close enough, I can stick in some big tires... oops, found a little rust when we cut the fender, let's refinish that fender... dammit, paint the whole car. Well, since we're painting it all anyway, let's do E39 M5 Carbon Black... which would be silly to do with aluminum bumpers, so let's pick up those M Tech 2 parts. Ebay.de has that M Tech 1 spoiler I like so much, order that up... dammit, there's an E30 M3 interior in black to replace this gray leather... adjustable Konis? Sure...

And on it goes. And my "nice" '89 iX becomes the "beater". But I really do drive this E30 90% of the time, it's a fun little beastie. In many way, it's more entertaining than my E36.

As for the mirrors, I like 'em. But every now and then, I wonder about putting the original barn doors back on. Good thing they were painted Carbon Black also.

The exhaust is getting a bit more tweaking, that was a last-minute rush job during our move. But who knows... this car may provide a template for a complete pre-fabricated M50-swap exhaust product to make available to others.

Tires are Toyo R888s, 195/55-15 front and 235/50-15 rear, a good matched set of near-same diameters. The idea for the 195 fronts is that it retains excellent public road steering response, feels a bit crisper than having the 235s in front. Now if it were a track car, sure, 235s all around would make sense. But it's not a track car... for that kind of fun, I have racecars around.

Love these E30s, which is why we're working on so many new parts for them.

Thanks again for the kind words!

        - Rob

The one thing that beast lacks are euro grilles.

As he said, E39 Carbon Black.

Beautiful car, awesome pics. Disappointed in the wheels but understand 100% why you're showcasing them on the car.

Indeed, you could have 235/50s all around at no expense of steering response if you had some wider barrels to put them on. :) (Someone needs to talk to D-Force about that, cough cough)

But I digress. Looks tits. I definitely like some flush fitment but I also like function over form, which is what this suspension/wheel/tire setup is. Looks great beside that, you could use some euro grilles though.

Dude... your car was my inspiration! Even half-assed (meaning when it first rolled and there was still much to do), it was the reminder of what modern power in a clean E30 was like. Remember, I did tell you (twice) that I'd be ready to take your car off your hands!

Lot of new stuff coming. Next up: total header and full exhaust system for S5x/M5x swap cars. :-D

The flush and Euro-stretch look just aren't my flavors. I like a little bit of chub to a tire, reminds me of those old school Koenig conversions, back when a 235 was insanely wide and good luck finding any wheel wider than 7".

True... but it's hard to find a 15x8 that is light and has good brake clearance and looks good. It seems that any 2 out of 3 is possible, but 3 for 3 not so much.

Safe to say the setup cost and minimum feasible manufacturing quantity is the problem. Serious question, how many people would really want a 15x8 or 8.5? Maybe there really is a missed opportunity there!

Rob, I've been tossing around ideas of what to do for side skirts and I've always kinda liked the IX skirts, but wasn't really sold on them. I recently put an ACS valence on and after seeing what your car looked like with the Tech2 bits mixed with the IX skirts/flares I was completely sold. Conveniently enough a set just popped on on local craigslist and I pulled the trigger and bought them.

Going to have them painted this weekend and then mount them up. Now I just need a rear valence to tie it all together.

Out of curiosity, how to you mount them up to the car. I honestly have no idea.

BTW, car looks absolutely amazing. Makes me proud to rock my UUC shift knob(although that thing turns into a ball of magma during the summer.)

There's a bunch of little clips, but my car may not be an example of how the factory does it... normal iX has fenders similar to a regular E30, and the flares go over them - they're pretty much decorative, they do not provide additional clearance. With my car, the fenders were cut out underneath the flares so there really is more clearance. Also, rear fender modifications may be different for pre-'88 cars with the different opening contour.

Try one of our steel or leather-wrapped steel knobs. Significantly different thermal transfer coefficient. You'll notice that all of our newer knobs only come in steel for that reason, no aluminum option.

Love the m-tech/IX combo... Loose the mirrors and add some euro grills and it would be perfect IMO.

                                Props.
