    saying hello...

    Howdy all,

I figured it was about time to make an introduction, so here it is. My first E30: a (mostly) zinno '87 325is purchased 2/20/2010. I bought it with the intent of eventually turning it into a SpecE30 car, but with a little (more) TLC this car will be a great street ride until that happens.

In the six weeks I've owned it I have compiled a pretty extensive list of things I've done to it, thanks in part to the folks who have posted some of the great advice I've already found on this forum. So far I've changed:

    timing belt
    timing belt tensioner
    water pump
    coolant
    coolant hoses
    thermostat
    breather hose
    plugs
    plug wires
    distro cap
    rotor
    diff fluid
    oil
    oil filter
    air filter
    AFM
    v-belts (sans A/C)
    alternator bracket
    firewall "elephant trunk" drain spout
    door seals
    door seal trim plates
    door handles
    door handle trim plates
    passenger door window motor
    driver side seat belt receiver
    misc. dash/console switches

    Still on the to-do list:
new brakes/rotors on all corners (Hawk/Brembos on the way)
steering rack boots (purchased but not yet installed)
repair broken driver side seat frame
    Iggee seat covers (?)
    shifter bushings
    wheels & tires
    stereo
    paint
    trim

Pics were taken the day I brought it home. It's dirty and still needs some work - I'm doing what I can as finances permit - but it's still fun as hell to drive, even with the shitty Falken Sinceras it has on it now.

Welcome, it looks like it needs some tlc. But judging by your list you are allready taking car of that.

Great; timing belt is first on the list. Always a good starting point with an M20.
        paint sucks

steamclean the crap out of it and then wax it about 3 times-- it WILL look better than 80% of the cars on this forum.
              now go do it.

That seems to be the predominant thinking, plus it was a fun project. Who knew REI was going to be one of my stops for tools??

Thanks! The valence was one of the things that really attracted me to this car. The price and the fact that it was in very good condition mechanically were a couple of the others.

Thanks, I can't wait 'til I can afford to do it.

The whole passenger side of the car is primer right now, so unfortunately it's going to look worse than 80% of the cars on this forum until I get it resprayed. Thanks for the encouraging words though.

A couple more items on my immediate to-do list are to put wheel studs on it and clean up & install the set of ellipsoids I have on my bench (gotta love having a member of the family who builds SpecE30s). I just bought some connectors off a guy here for the ellipsoids and I'm waiting to hear back from a guy on some studs.

                Updates as they become available...
