just got back from Road Atlanta. What a blast!
On my way up there for tech inspection I hit a dip in the highway pretty good and bottomed out the exhaust breaking a hanger. But I was in luck, less than 2 miles away was a group of some of the nicest guys in the world. I exited the highway and limp the car down to 3550 Lawrenceville Suwanee Road Northwest, thats right The Racers Market. I come through the parking lot dragging my exhaust like a rusted old Buick and Mike comes to the rescue with a fix to get my on my way in no time. I can't thank them enough for all the help with getting me back on my way to tech inspection!
Tech inspection went great no issues with the car at all.
The next day was the drivers meeting at 8am with practice at 9am.
The track is so much more challenging than one would ever expect. trying to stretch the legs of the drift all the way down the hill without power was extremely difficult but with a proper line it was possible. During the practice session it was looking a little rough with multiple off course excursions and making use of the peerless skid-plate on the curbs.
With a few words of wisdom DGTrials Eugene Chou I was able to qualify 7th. For the top 16 I was paired up with a good drifter buddy of mine Harrison Ritchie. I have only been tandeming since February and 80% of it has been with him and his 2jz powered Cressida so we knew our driving styles well. 1st run with me leading was fairly close with neither driver pulling the advantage. On the 2nd run with Harrison leading everything was going great for the run down the hill but after the first turn things started to go sour. I went to clutch kick 3rd as i always do to help my transition up the hill and the clutch just wouldn't grab. I try time and time again and the clutch just gave up. I knew that was the end of my day. I'm glad Harrison went on to kick some ass all the way up to 4th place but a little sad I couldn't get a real chance to see how I would stack up if it weren't for the equipment failure.
Well that was a lot longer than I ever needed to write. I'll get pictures and vids up in the coming days...
