M50+E36 tranny is better idea, itd be a better deal to have more horsepower and a manual gearbox then to have same power, just manual and a lil nicer paint.

M50+E30 tranny. The Getrag 260 is a MUCH stronger unit than the E36 unit.

Not to mention the whole money shift problems the E36 tranny's have.

            Money shift = BAD.

I have a friend here in town with an E36 M3 who did it about 2 years ago. Let's just say he shifts much more carefully now.

If you can find a dirt cheap M20 and have the skills to do the 5 speed swap go for it. The M50 wont cost you much more though. So you should consider that. I drive a chipped M20 and its fun. Granted an M50 would be alot more fun. Its kinda hard to answer your question... would I be happy with an M20. I am for now but I would be much more happy with an M50. Stepping up form an e motor I think you would be happy. An M20 with a few bolt on's and your smokin most ricers.

I wont lie... it gives me a little satisfaction. Better word would've been "V-tech's"

My satisfaction lies not in knowing I am faster than them. You never know what's under the hood.

It lies in knowing that as soon as we hit curved asphalt, they can't see me anymore.

True.... I wasnt talking about strate line speed. Thats half the reason why Im satisfied with my M20 because of my rediculous suspension and brakes.

Whoa... didn't expect my stock e30 thread would bring a second page. :!:

I'm hoping to pull off a M50 swap this summer so I don't need to worry about all the things that will go on my very very tired M20. I want to be able to hold onto this car for a very long time (I don't see myself selling it after I put in the M50)

Thanks for the offer kansas-ix but unless it was free+shipping I don't think I'd do it. I'm not trying to be a cheapass but I think I'm gonna save and prep for the M50 in any way I can.

I've read alot of places (including here) that the Getrag 260 is better to use with the M50, and I hope to do the manual swap awhile before the M50 swap to break it in some - but I'll see what happens. I realize the M50 is at the least months away - I'm just seeing what you guys have to say about it.
